What should I expect?

Fellow Forumites,
What should I expect as far as finish, etc.,. when purchasing a knife from a WELL KNOWN custom knife maker? The cost of the knife was $450.00 and included a sheath. Would a gouged-up sheath, screwed up grind line,dinged grip, pitting and un-even finish be normal at this price range.?

If it was me the knife would be going back with a "Please explain" request.
