What should my first HI purchase be??

Yeah, now that you have your big boy settled, I would recommend getting something smaller, too. The AK Bowie is real sweet and is built to withstand whatever you can throw at it. I also hear good things about the GRS in the 12" range -- that's what I'm looking very closely at for my next purchase. Collecting and trying new sizes and models is half the fun! The other half? Sending wicked wood chips flying through the air!

No problem moogoogaidan and XanRa. If i thought it was done to scalp or be sneaky, we'd have to have a conversation.
At first i was just going to say nothing, and probably should have, but i felt it prudent to mention (mostly for new folk).
I'd rather issue a universal warning, rather than the alternatives (being cranky about it and infracting).
We're all good and thank you for understanding!

I understand, I agree. But didn't think about it at first- live and learn and keep chopping ;)

To everyone else- I am DEFINITELY getting an ak bowie asap- for a few reasons, the biggest is I can use it as a REAL Bowie for my civil war reenacting- a kukri will sneak along too, but it won't be on my belt

After some thought- how is the pen knife? It looks like a neat "funsize:D" Khukuri...

In the short time I've had it, I've become a strong believer in the merits of the Farm Knife.

Not quite as massive as many other HI models, but what it lacks in heft it makes up for in bite and versatility. I've used mine both to split kindling and to dice up my supper. :D

I've never had any HI's come shaving sharp... it took a bit of work for this one, and sometimes a lot more for the thicker khukuris. But once you get 'em to the state you want 'em... ooh boy!

It made a wonderful sound too.... Definitely my kind of knife...

Ahh, that slight ringing as it clipped the hairs! If I'm not mistaken it may have been fellow forumite Killa Concept that provided the design for these... I don't trust my memory though.

Where can I get ahold of that beast?? I need one...
