What size knife for a glove compartment?

Maybe it doesn't raise eyebrows because they've tried to open, and more importantly CLOSE that bad boy!

I always have to inventory my fingers after closing mine. Dang sturdy, and sharp from the factory.
I'm 71 and have no problems opening a Pocket Bushman one-handed.

FortyTwoBlades FortyTwoBlades has the proper method for safely closing a Pocket Bushman. Using his method, I've never had any problems. It's totally safe.

This is my current glove box knife, Hultafors security (rounded tip) serrated. Also very inexpensive ☺️
(Mora has also an equivalent knife, but not as cheap)

My dedicated truck knife is my Cold Steel SR1 folder. Tough as a fixed blade, but easier to carry and fit in the center console.
Ive used it a few times, but never for anything important. Rather have it and not need it tho….

What are the laws where you live?
There are some things you just don't want popping out of the glovebox when the cop asks to see your registration....
Exactly, I keep mine in a compartment in the center console instead of the glove box for just that reason.

Just an inexpensive but quality knife

I wonder if the older cars had bigger glove boxes for bigger knives? 😀. Maybe that is why they made truck knives when the glove box was too small. 👍 Seriously, a Buck 110 or 112 would b e a good stash knife for odd jobs…for a car. Maybe a Slim Select. Truck knives are larger.

Hultafors heavy duty. Weighs, costs nothing nothing and is basically indestructible.

Hultafors GK is my designated knife for popping open frozen car doors. Of course, that means It would be pointless to carry it in the car. I have been carrying a Brian Griffin SCHF55 in the console, but upon reflection, I should carry something more easily replaceable.

The previous owner of my car left behind a CRKT M16-something, which has gone missing, but is not missed, making it the second time I have not bothered to replace one of these knives. If my junkie stepson had come to me and just said: “Henry, I really need some drugs”, I would have given him the M21 to take to the pawn shop, and spared him the moral anguish of stealing it.

I'm fond of the Buck Bucklite fixed blade knives for keeping in a vehicle.
Buck's 420hc is versatile and stainless, they have rubber handles and nylon sheaths.
So moisture is not a problem, and it's easily sharpened if needed.
USA made, less than $40 and available both large and small.

Good thread! My next will be a fixed for the box with a 4 inch blade. Should be about right for dire situations. Better to have it is correct for sure.

My ZT0620 is a bit heavier than I like to carry, so it lives in my wife's Jeep's console. I thought it'd make a good emergency knife. The Emerson Commander pulls the same duty in my pickup.

I can’t tell you what you should carry, but I have a Leatherman Wave, ESEE6 equivalent, and a machete in my truck. The machete gets the most use.
Cold Steel has some good blades for the vehicle. Recons and Voyagers.

I keep a Buck 110 LT and a Leatherman Wave handy in my vehicles glove box all the time. Then I have a couple larger fixed blades, hatchet and saw in my camping gear box in the back under the tonneau cover. The 110 is my most used of these followed by the multi tool, and covers a lot of tasks I’ve run into while out and about. I would say if a person had these two items stashed in their glove box they would be well set up.

I have a SAK Spartan and a RAT1 in all the gloveboxes, plus a Gerber and some flavor of fixed blade in the trunk

I was gonna suggest a Gerber Strongarm, basically indestructible, stainless, secure grip and probably capable of handling any situation you might encounter, also apparently not too expensive if you're in the US. I'm sure though you'll be very pleased with your Mora as well :)

Gerber Strongarm? Bought a Gerber Prodigy Tanto for $30 years back. Frowned on here am sure but maybe not as horrible as I thought. Serves as a beater for me.
