I have a number of knives, but I gotta admit that their blade steel rarely determines whether they get carried that day or not. I am still impressed with Phil Wilson's 10V though, a great cutter with an edge that will cut a long time. Still really like S30V. I have liked most of the new steels I've tried, but I gotta admit I'm still perfectly happy with the old school carbon, stainless, & tool steels, too.
You can find that steel in old Vermont American saw blades for smaller knives. Looking for them can take the sting out of being the yardsale wheelman. The steel is also listed as O-186.
I'm not a big steel nut, really. As long as it works, it's all good for me. With that said, INFI does keep impressing me time and again. I wish I could have a puukko made of that stuff.
