What steel types have magical spell over you?

VG10, BG42, ZDP 189, S90V, M2

1095, A2, 52100, W1/W2, Super Blue, Vascowear

Satisfied Ginaz? I'm pretty sure I've forgot quite a few. Joe

S30V. Prefer it over D2.

KaBar's 1095 is no super edge holder, but sharpens easily to a very keen edge.

I also like 154 CM, 'cause it's prettier than the others. :D

I have a number of knives, but I gotta admit that their blade steel rarely determines whether they get carried that day or not. I am still impressed with Phil Wilson's 10V though, a great cutter with an edge that will cut a long time. Still really like S30V. I have liked most of the new steels I've tried, but I gotta admit I'm still perfectly happy with the old school carbon, stainless, & tool steels, too.

for carbon 1095 is my favorite but for stainless BG-42, VG-10, and S30V are all about even IMO.

Any tungsten alloy!

Any i have tried was great in overall performance.

Years ago it was ATS34. Then A2, S30V and D2. But my all time favorite is M2 with A2, D2, S30V & ATS34 trailing far behind.

I'm not a big steel nut, really. As long as it works, it's all good for me. With that said, INFI does keep impressing me time and again. I wish I could have a puukko made of that stuff.

Well, it depends on the knife's intended use and size.

For folders I like VG-10, S30V, O1 and 52100.

For small and medium sized fixed blades I like D2, 52100 and O1.

For large fixed blades I like 9260, 5160.

For everyday use I like 154CM. It takes an edge well and holds it for a good long while.

For not so everyday use I really like D2.

I also like 1095 in larger knives. I like high carbon steel.
