What to get with $400?

I have been recently tasked my friend and Steel supplier to pick out a knife of my liking, so he can use the balance of his "Discretionary funds". I spent 3-4 last night looking and have decided upon a Fixed Blade knife. 4"-5" carbon blade, natural element handle & a nice leather sheath.

None of us are novices here, but I don't have much experience with these type of knives. My search was mostly at KSF and most of that was browsing through their Bark River selection. My question to you is, what are your experiences with Bark River?

If I was gonna spend ~$400 on a fixed blade it would be on one of the smaller America Kami Colubris.

Every so often I will spot a randall here on the forum for around 400. May be able to look other places to find them for that price as well

Contact Jeff at JA Baker Knives. His Viper or Wilderness Hunter would do you nicely.

T.K.Steingas on the exchange.

That's a great recommendation.

That price range, with those criteria, for sure troll the custom for sale forum (both the custom makers, and private individuals for sale)

Thanks for the ideas. I have decided on a Bark River Bush Seax. 4.8" A2 blade with Ironwood handle. Won't be the nicest knife in my collection but it will be a nice user.

Go custom:thumbup:

Check out the maker "for sale" area of this forum, there is a lot of really great stuff there. I always hear great things about Big Chris, you should check out his work.

Personally, I would opt for either CPM-3V or CPM-4V (US equivalent to Vanadis 4E).

And now that I've read the thread, that doesn't quite fit the guidelines, lol! :D

I have that same gold coin in my wallet right now. That's a good price.

There's no way in hell I'd spend $400 on a production fixed blade.

I've made/sold some (if I do say so myself) nice blades for WAY less than that amount. And there's some VERY good makers right here on BF in the Makers market section that make awesome knives at lower prices than that.

(My favourite ones at mr. Bailey and mr. Dan Graves)

At that price.....custom all the way.
