What to say to a stranger when you see a knife clip on his pocket without...?

I stare at their pants.....look up and smile.....stare at his pants again....then he thinks I'm checking him out and we get into a knife fight where I have a chance to see what blade he's carrying :p No really, I notice clips but I don't give it a second thought or bother them about it.

LOL! Yeah, that's a good way to get into a fight, or make a new "special" friend.

i will ask if I'm at the outdoor shop/ camping stores/ hunting shops/ gun shops/ pretty much as long as im in a manly store i will pop the question with usually an interesting conversation about knives we carry daily.

i don't stare though i just simply say how are you, if they answer i say nice knife lol

I always ask the guy if he's ever killed anybody with a knife.

Just ask him. People don't carry folding pocket knives for self defense. Those that claim they are carrying one for self defense are confused. It's a tool, not a weapon.

I worked a second job delivering pizzas a few years back.Long story short, ask the guy who tried to rob me,at gun point, in an apartment complex breezeway if it was a tool or a weapon that put him in the hospital and then in jail.It was an Emerson Commander.Luckily a resident witnessed the crime and my subsequent self defense, and testified on my behalf, giving the sorry SOB his third strike and sending him to prison for a long, long time.Multiple surgeries restored only minimal function to his right hand which was all but severed. I carry a knife RELIGIOUSLY for defense, the fact that it is a handy tool to have on me when the need arises is a bonus.I usually have a gun close by as well,my Browning High Power was in my glove box during the robbery. If it had been in a holster on me,I believe he would be in grave instead of prison today. Yes,I got the Emerson back.Yes,I still carry it(though a ZT 0350 has recently taken up residence in my right pocket) and Yes,a folding pocket knife is a weapon for self defense.

I'm no SEAL but here's a man who puts the idea of a folding pocket knife is not a weapon argument to rest.Maybe whatever you carry is a tool.I carry a weapon. Thus endeth the lesson.

I've had a law enforcement officer compliment my buck odyssey years ago when clipped in my pocket. What knife carriers I see around here are usually Gerbers/no name brands.

Come up behind him, stick your hand in his other pocket, and peek around at the knife while he's distracted. This always works.

Huh. When I deanimated a pizza assailant I definitely was using my knife as a tool. No question. Different strokes, I guess.

a pizza assailant

If the assault was commited using a pizza be carefull. Deadly force is only permitted in most juristictions if you believe you life is in immediate danger and remember you will need to convince a jury of same. Although I would be concerned that if someone was using a pizza to attack me that even though the pizza did not present a threat the individuals choice of a foodstuff as a weapon might indicate a great deal of mental instability and like you I might have stabbed the pizza wielding assailant.

My name is allyourblood and I approve this message.

I tend not to ask any questions, it's awkward to say the least.

I always ask the guy if he's ever killed anybody with a knife.

If I have to ask, It goes like this, "how many bodies does that blade have on it?"

Effective method to find out what kind of knife it is.
Walk up real close to him and say, "GIMME YOUR F###ING WALLET OR I'LL HAVE TO HURT YOU!"

I always just think of an excuse to pull mine out (my knife that is) and see if they notice and approach me. I guess I'm just shy that way.

I usually say " I noticed your blade, I collect do you?" And as stated above a knife is a tool not a weapon, people who think they are weapons are sorta like a knife - except they are a USELESS tool..... And if anyone gets cocky and rude about it, normally I am carrying more knives than them =-)
