What to trade a Sebenza for?

Just curious, but why does it matter who cut the grooves? You can see the picture and they are professionally done (I remember his old post, and he did the work).

Just trying to figure out why it would matter who did the work, instead of how the work looked? I could understand if someone just hacked at it with a dremel but that is obviously not the case.

I wasn't passing judgement on the asthetics. They look like they could have been original. VERY nice work based on the photos. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if michaelmcgo hasn't already been asked if he would be willing to do some more of that work after people saw what he did to this one.
But we are talking value here, and I think I am on pretty solid ground saying that customizing like that, however well done, will generally detract from the value of the knife for allot of people.

what about that mnadi that had that insane cheetah scrimshaw on it? that wasnt done by anyone at crk and I remember crying when I saw the price.

There are three good suggestions in this thread.
1. Keep it
2. Sell it and buy 400 tacos
3. Trade for a pony.

I like all three but #3 is especially good. That pony will make a hell of a lot of stew.

I really don't want to stray from the core question of the OP, but I think that you are comparing apples and oranges. Sort of Artisan vs. Artist, no comparison IMHO.
I'm just saying that in a sale/trade situation the mods on the OP's knife would be something that would reduce it's value to ME. Maybe not to you, and neither of us would be "wrong", it's just my opinion.

I'd keep it.

But, since you want a trade, trade it off for a Strider, custom, or a group of lower cost knives you'd like to try. (I just got my first Strider, great blade:thumbup:)

Maybe use it as a partial trade for some high end knife (Hinderer knife? Busse?, Randall?) or whatever floats your boat.

I actually like the grooves, BTW.

Sounds like you should sell the rest of your knives and keep the Sebenza.

Exactly my thoughts. I prefer to have quality over quantity... you did mention that others have been left out for the Sebenza and that it was the exact knife you have been looking for. Sell the others, edc the sebbie and it will become like an extension of you arm LOL!

It's not that I don't want a quality knife. It's just that I have owned a used a Sebenza, and now I am ready to try out something else in this category. I was originally thinking Umnumzaan, but those Strider CC's are looking really nice. I think I'll add another knife and try for an SMF CC or a SNG CC.

I agree that the CC's are hawt. My choice would be the SnG.

The Umfaan is more of an accessory than a primary knife. Thing I like most about mine is that it rounds out a trifecta of three sizes of the Sebenza pattern.

I don't think the SnG/Sebenza issue is an either/or thing. They are mutually-reinforcing designs, so I think you will want both.

I think you mean Umnumzaan, not Umfaan.

Played with one at blade, it's a sweet knife. I gotta add one to the stable one day :D

I have owned a Sebenza for a couple months and have carried very few other knives since I got it. I know it sounds weird, but I think I want to trade it because I don't carry the rest of my knives. The Sebenza is really the exact knife I was looking for, but after getting one, I realized that I just need a knife to cut stuff not something as perfectly put together as the Sebenza is. My question is now that I have decent trading fodder, what are my options? I think the knife is valued somewhere around $290. What should I be looking at as far as Striders, customs, etc.?

I see no reason to get rid of the Sebenza. I sometimes feel that way with my XM -18 and my Madd Maxx but I just don't carry them sometimes anyway. When I rotate them back in they seem even better.

I think you should trade it for a pet rock.
I just happen to have a pet rock.
Let's talk.
