That pattern is stamped.
The other word you're looking for is "carved'.
Carving is much harder and more time consuming... a real art form.

I hope so. I really like the knife, it's beautiful, but the blade angle tends to bug me... hoping some time with it will get me used to it.

The slip is "stamped" and the mat it's sitting on is 'carved'...
