Thanks. I like it too and I use it a lot. My house is about 85 years old. At some point the original owner built a big workbench in the garage and mounted the vise to it and left it all when they moved out. I don’t know the vintage of it, but I know it’s old enough to be of solid quality. I’m glad you were able to find a good, quality vise. When I get old and a little worn, I hope someone carries me around too.
Congrats! The smugglers made it through.

Besides the jack, I like the vise.
I found out the hard way that new “heavy duty” bench vises imported from a certain Asian country are made of pot metal with a thin layer of case hardening on the outside.
Cranked one down hard on an old Colt slide, and it simply fell apart like wet cardboard.
I lucked out, and got an big old vise from a friend who owned a garage. Cleaned it up by soaking in kerosene, and it’s good for another century of use.
Thanks Gus
I love looking at them too. I remember when I was given them my dad thought I should clean them up, but even at 12 years old, I knew I wanted to keep them just the way they were.Wonderful picture, Todd.
Our Bass Pro Shop had a desk set up in the entry with a lot of antique fishing gear displayed. I can sit there and just take it all in, love it!
If my memory is correct Jeff, my grandfather used them to troll for salmon on Lake Michigan, the larger ones anyway, this one is pretty small compared to some of the other ones.I’ve got several of those old reels. One even pre-dates the invention of the level wind, so you have to guide the line as you reel it in.
These were “casting reels”, but they hadn’t invented the free spool yet. The dificulty of casting one of those led to Americans taking to those weird European reels that hang down under your rod.
Very nice Jimmy.View attachment 1744009
White Owl Wednesday!
Thanks Man! I really need to use this one more!Very nice Jimmy.![]()
Yeah, I've only told a couple of friends about my weird knife picture taking hobby
I thought I was going unnoticed getting some knife shots off at the barbers, but then from the back, “Mighty fine knife you got there, fella.” I’d about rather stab my thigh bone than try to explain the knife & pic hobby to those fortunate uninitiated innocents. I get real squirrelly when I try to do that.

I blame it on the covid lockdowns![]()

Full size, certainly. 3 & 7/8" closed, 3 & 1/8" main blade.That’s the large one, right?
I feel the same way.but even at 12 years old, I knew I wanted to keep them just the way they were
I have a hard enough time trying to explain my knife display, I'd never be able to make sense of picture posting.
That's gorgeous... Congrats.
So awesome... Now I want pancakes.
