What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Are the handles on the Viper a marbled carbon fiber? Or...? In any event they look good. I've come back to look a couple of times 🔎

Yup - they are 'marbled carbon fiber.' When I ordered that knife, I was curious just how they would actually look in person, and wasn't sure if I'd really like them or not. But they've really grown on me and I think they look great, esp. when the light hits it just right.

I like carbon fiber. You're right, it does interesting things depending on the light. Plus I'm geeky enough to like it just because it's carbon fiber. I used to prefer the woven cf, but I'm coming around to the marbled also. I recently purchased a Buck Slim 112 in marbled cf and the handles are quite attractive, as are the handles on your Viper :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Good Morning Porch Friends and Happy Friday.
Made it to the weekend, and you’re arriving in style my friend! 😎👍

Looks great Mark. 😎👍
What great pictures Jon, STL through and through! 😎👍

I have been busy getting some things done the past few days. I toted my 65-69 redbone Mini Trapper the past two days.
Case changed the blade types on this model (6207) in the 1970's, as far as I can tell, keeping the model number, yet going from a clip and pen to a California Clip and Spey blade.
Some say it was called a dogleg jack before the blades changed, not sure I agree with them since it does not have the true dogleg shape.

Interesting, I've wondered that myself. If you look at a GEC 56 or a CASE/Bose Collab they look like Doglegs to me whereas the CASE you show still remains a Mini Trapper or Serp Trapper shape.

Similarly, this none too common Queen Cutlery No.5 in WCSB was referred to as a Dogleg but it's puzzled me, but then, I suppose dogs come in all manner of shapes and sizes...

Toting a couple favorites today. :)

The scout pattern is certainly one of my favorites; thanks a lot, Jack!!! :)

Strawberries and a couple of peaches for your sunny day; have a great time on your outdoor adventure! 😁:thumbsup:

I like that one even more I think JJ, it certainly pairs beautifully with your vintage CJ Barlow

Thank you my friend :)

I'm just about to hit the hay here in Yorkshire, but heading out for a hike tomorrow :) Have a great Saturday everyone

Will - I try to think back to the Case hardware displays in the 1960's, when I was a kid, and I don't recall them ever calling the knives a pattern name, as we do today, seems like they would have a pattern number above or below the knife in the displays. Many of the old catalogs I have (not Case Catalogs) just show a pattern number and no pattern name. Of course, back then, most everyone knew what a jack knife was and what was a Barlow. Wish I had some older Case catalogs. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔😇 Very nice Queen, BTW.

This Cattaraugus knife is a true dogleg pattern, in my opinion and it has a compound curve or, as the old saying goes, is "crooked as a dog's hind leg" 🤣.
Your Queen and the Case 6207 pattern has only one. :

Schrade and Jeff would likely call this a Serpentine Jack, which is not incorrect either. ☺️
