Funny you said that, because I told my wife that I've only bought a few knives that cost more than $171, and that's not even the most expensive tank of gas I've ever bought. Here's one from May 14th (I wasn't trying to exactly hit an round dollar amount, that's just where it stopped):

Dang! I remember when that much regular leaded gas would set you back $5.73. (rounded to nearest higher penny; $0.199/gallon) Less than 2 hours work at a minimum wage ($3.30/hr) job.
#1 Diesel was a whopping $0.059 a gallon then. I think #2 diesel was a penny more. ("farm" fuel for the tractors, combines, etc. was less. No federal or state fuel taxes on that fuel.)

Sure am glad I went car free when gas was $1.39 a gallon, which at the time I considered "too much". I don't miss the monthly insurance premiums, either.

However, I can't figure out why some nothing special bicycle tires (700C size) cost 3x ~ 4x what a name brand car/pickup/van tires costs.
The automotive tires are good for 50,000 ~ 60,000 plus miles. Lucky to get 5,000 miles out of some of those bicycle tires.
Some of the tires used in the TDDF are good for one stage (or less if they find a thorn or chi of glass) of the race (usually under 100 ~ 125 miles a stage), and cost several hundred bucks each.
Must be nice to have sponsors to pay the bills.

The Duracell 9v is the Bohler Barlow of batteries. That’s how I see it now. Great looking knife. Here’s what I took on my walk today.
