What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Leaving in a bit to take Cindy to the hospital over in Lakeview, Oregon for a procedure. I swear it seems like one or the other or both of us spend a lot of time at the doctors or dentists. Anyway, I'll travel light with just Bunny #525 in my pocket but will have a Buck 112 in reserve should something heavy be required while on the road. Breakfast sandwich at Subway for breakfast on the go.

I've been away from home since August 5, and haven't been keeping up with this thread very well. o_O
Here are some quotes I saved up before I left that I thought were "notable", so I'll see if I can remember what I wanted to "note", and the rest of you are welcome to join me in this memory test. 🤓

Lovely bone on that Marbles !
Thanks, Steve. That means a lot coming from you, whom I consider to be the Baron of Bone!:)

Cool mini copperhead, Gary. Seems like a neat little knife that people here don’t carry often. I like the red shield.
Thanks, Bart. :) I agree that the red shield looks great on the blue bone. I like the blades on each end better than a 2-blade jack set-up, but I imagine there's plenty of people that prefer the blades on the same end.

Happy Yorkshire Day Gary! :)
...

I do have some familiarity with ferrets, but I'm not sure they smell much better after a dunking! :D I'm afraid I didn't do any of those things, but I did put my cap on my head, and walked to the pub on both my feet! ;) Chip butty for lunch, pie for tea, and a pint along the way ;)

Love the festive Yorkshire Day photos!:thumbsup::cool:

Gorgeous red bone, Gary! Today is my birthday, so I'm carrying something that was born along with me in the mid 1950s.

You got that right, Gary! ☹️
Bob and Vince, thanks for the nice thoughts. So far, I went to the pistol range, bought myself a bottle of Irish Whisky, and the wife and me are going to a nice seafood restaurant for dinner. Oldest daughter and granddaughter called to wish me well . . . couldn't ask for much more!
Just back from my birthday dinner, where I carried my Case-Bose stockman. A glorious meal!

Thanks, Jeff. :)
VERY belated birthday greetings; sounds like you had a good one! That vintage red Robeson stockman is a perfect birthday carry for a gentleman with your years of experience!:thumbsup:🤓

When I ordered some food I had to put my name down on the order screen.

Sadly the girl only called out Billy and not my full name.

Next time maybe I will use Bad Santa,Philip Marlowe,Sundance Kid,Captain Willard,Bigus Dickus,mr. C lion,Starsky and Hutch...something colourful... 😅

This reminded me of a fictional character in a series of novels that I've read. Whenever he has to sign the register at a hotel, he uses names of former second basemen of the New York Yankees baseball team.

I nearly forgot that for Thursday I was toting thrifty. :)
Love it when you put the Hammers down, JJ!:cool::thumbsup:

I like RR’s tobacco bone series. Very well done for the price
Totally agree! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

Great pairs all ! 👍
Belated thanks, Steve.

Ah, Monster Trucks. That and the monster tractor pulls. You should see one inside to get the full ear-destroying effects.

Too early for scotch, but one can still sniff the cork as it were 😄

Thanks for the WE link earlier Amir Fleschwund Amir Fleschwund . I wish them well I'd love to see some homegrown EL34s.
Aah… glowing tubes and a fine knufe make a beautiful photo.
Yes, I’d pay to have 12AX7s, 6L6, 6V6, and EL84 tubes made in the USA again.
I need to watch what happens!

case slimline in 1095 is the helper as i’m trying to install my cb radio
this knife allowed me to fall in love with traditionals again, the simplicity and usefulness is a thing of beauty

It’s the only traditional I have with me. Once I reported to Seattle I had to fly down to Oakland to meet the ship. I didn’t feel comfortable packing a bunch of knives in my check baggage because of stories I’ve heard. Next month I’ll get to go back to Seattle for a few days.

Both of the above knives are fine variations of what the old Schrade catalogs called Serpentine Jack, and if a person had to have just one knife, that would do. 🤙
Sweet! :)

Tubes are outstanding in the the entire audio chain, from recording to playback; very similar to fine pocket knives, as both of their respective "Golden Ages" turned out the most significant innovations and subsequent tools. ;):thumbsup:
Yes, the tubes vs solid state, and traditional knives vs modern is a valid analogy.

Thank you much sir, happy to share and to enjoy everyone else's blades. Just a small bite, it's happened more times than I can remember. Luckily the knife is already a keeper 😃
A dab of Super Glue, and you’re good as new.😁

Bonding with the GEC 53 Electrician, which was a kind gift from Leslie Tomville Leslie Tomville . Thanks again, Greg! Such a solid and sturdy knife. Really digging the sheepfoot blades.

I really like the Camillus 23 Jack. The size, solid feel, strong springs, and large spear with good sized pen just make it an ideal user for me.
It’s not the prettiest knife, with it’s blunt cigar shape, and you don’t see it being toted too often. I know screened porch screened porch has at least one, and JJ Cahill JJ Cahill has a Camillus made Remington, but lucky for me, it’s a pattern that’s mostly flown under the radar. That meant I could find and afford them.😁
Over the years, I bought three of them. Not teying to be a “collector”, but at the time, they were not in high demand, so were cheap. My first two came off the auction site for under $25. I paid more for this one, the Orr Felt Co. one, because it looked dead mint. Kind of lucky to find a knife made before 1950 that has never been sharpened or used.

But this knife is a reminder of the drawbacks associated with the celluloid Ivoroid scales. On my first two, the Ivoroid is stable, even though worn from use. But on this one, the celluloid has shrunk slightly away from the bolsters, and both the blade spine, and the back of the springs show peppering from the celluloid off gassing.C03788C7-E79D-4204-B97F-F4F191ADC0F4.jpeg As a precaution, I keep these segregated from my other knives, and keep the steel oiled.
I’m rambling again…
Carry in Porcheteers, and enjoy the day!

I think it was the same advertising people. :)

This #78 is new to me as of friday of last week. Gave it a few passes on the 1000 grit stone and the strop and used it all weekend. Helped me cut tomatoes and olives and mix some pasta sauce and the patina is coming in stronger than I expected. What a gorgeous knife, and a fantastic user. Couldn't be happier so I'm carrying it again today. Hope everyone is having a great monday!
