What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Thanks you Dextar. I "cheat" by re-using the same 3 or 4 photo locations around my house, at different times of day the light is right in different spots. ;)

I do love spear mains, this is the best blade profile of them all. Coping secondary is also my favorite!

Knives du jour.

Killed a few minutes in Harry J. Epstein's Hardware. This is what a hardware store shelf should look like! It's really dangerous for my budget that this place is 2 blocks from where I have to drop my boy off to school in the mornings. Going to have to go back for one of the smaller square nose Russell knives.
I'd love to check out HJE in person. I try to place an order with them every 4th of July at least to support them. Their box art is something else!

These yesterday (all from Modoc Ed).
But I had to put away the whaler because it was just too much in the funny pockets of lined jeans.

So I need to go fewer and lighter.
Maybe the mysterious Made in USA jack and the snow queen Camillus pen.

I know this never happens, but I can't quite make up my mind. Maybe the Boker USA jack, the Waterville, or the unmarked cattle knife.

In any event, there's no reason to not carry the mojo Camillus.

Waterville and Camillus. (and of course the big SAK on my belt.)

Jeff, I can't read stamping on the 8OT but the nail nick is different than the Schrade 8OT in my pocket. Is that how one tells your 8OT is a Schrade Walden?
The only way I know of for sure, is the tang stamp saying Schrade, or Schrade Walden.
The 8 Old Timer Stockman was previously named the 881, but later Schrades, like my yellow ones, were also labeled 881.
The jigged delrin was mostly used by SW, and then, when the Old Timer name came along, the sawcut delrin was mostly used.

Then, I don’t think the pull gives a definitive clue either. Although I guess I’ve seen the long pull, and the matchstrike long pull on SW more often, vs the nail nick on Schrades.

Another small difference, but not always, is the model number being on the back of the tang on the Schrade Waldens.

The one I toted yesterday has Schrade Walden on the mark side of the tang, and 8OT on the pile side of the tang. It has the matchstrike long pull, and sawcut delrin. I think all those clues probably mean it was from just before they changed from Schrade Walden to just Schrade.
Here’s another that I have on me now, a Schrade Walden 879. Probably a bit older, with the jigged delrin. This one has rounded bolsters, and more of a curve to the frame, but it’s the same size as the 881/80…07C6DB62-DC5D-4051-A8B0-B1278DC9AEBF.jpegDB49791C-4008-44AE-B591-B51AA02202CD.jpeg

Jeff,
Thank you for the information. A lot to look for in telling actual manufacturer. I did not realize Schrade was also branded as or with several others until recently.

Good job on documenting the mental twists and turns most of us take trying to decide, Jer!😄

We got hot toddies when we were little for a cold or flu. Scotch, hot water and sugar.
Yeah! :D My grandmother always bought a bottle of 14 proof Stone's Green Ginger Wine at Christmas - for the kids!
Thanks Jack GEC did a nice job with dyeing the bone.
They sure did Dan :) I like the #14 frame :)
doing some odd jobs around the house today. Putting the stockman to work for anything dirty so that the lamb stays tuned up for apple duty.

Practical pairing Jon :)
I’ve had these 3 sharing my pockets today, with the lamb doing any heavy lifting!🤣
