What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I love seeing all the 98s, and hope we get to see more!
I foolishly sold or traded three different 98s just after they came out, so when I was recently able to obtain this snakewood beauty it became a safe queen.

Bob, I really like the new K'roo Ettrick. Not a pattern you see too often. I've been carrying Roper and the brown Richlite #15 for a few days.

Nice pair, Harry!
Any idea how old the Bower is?
Good knife to have for opening paint cans.🤙
Thanks Todd. I think it was the bag of salt I was cutting open that they approved of 😁

Whenever they look cooperative, it’s because I have a bag of salt I’m putting out. She looks like a steak with hair 😁

Haha. No, I don’t have a 70’s delrin Shrade, though I wish I did. It was a Case. I posted it in the 30-day barlow challenge thread but I’ll show it here too. I love that when you see the words “70’s delrin”, your mind automatically jumps to Schrade.

Here’s that Camco for FC @ephsea. They are cool old knives and this one is some of my better work.

Oh man, you got me. I suppose a shrink would call that Projection.

Love your mod on the Camco, Bart!

Thanks Gary, a Schrade in sheep's clothing.
Good luck with the tax man.✍️
Thanks for the Franklin info, Bob. :)
I think I may need luck with the tax man this time. I fear I underwithheld and am going to be forced to file quarterly returns going forward. :( But I could be wrong.

It is a 61OT and I really like it. Easy to carry but still plenty of blade and handle.
Thanks for the ID. :)
I have a Chinese version of the 61OT and I agree with you. It's a big stockman, but it's slender and curvy, so it "carries smaller".

You mentioned organs. My favorite is the old Hammond B3 with the huge Leslie rotating speaker cabinets. They produce a 3D phasing sound, giving them spaciousness and depth. Many guitaristst have made that Leslie sound part of their signature sound ~ Robin Trower and David Gilmour for ex.

But the Hammond B3 has always been a fixture in blues bands.

Our church band does not have an organ, just a grand piano. And we are extremely fortunate that our very talented leader leaves plenty of sonic space for the rest of us instrumentalists. I’ve played with keys players who can’t do that, and are so dominating that everyone else may as well pack up and go home.
I had one like that, and I tactfully suggested she should sit on her left hand.
I've heard the Hammond B3s, and I've heard of the Leslie speakers, but I don't recall ever seeing the Leslie speakers in action. In the "House of the Rising Sun" video, I read that the organ is a Vox Continental (?) that looks very portable (and also looks like it reverses the black and white colors on the keys o_O).

Wish I was half as tactful as you are, Jeff! 🤓

Its a blue tit,if you use the phrase without using the blue bit in England its also a mild insult. 😆
Thanks for the info. :) Once you identified the bird for me, I looked it up online and confirmed that we don't have them in the US.

Great looking canoes.👍
I'd wager a tepid cuppa instant coffee, or a stale dounut the Painted Desert would look even better with nicely patina'd blades.
(and the Classic Carbon RR1736 would too, without the two large "R"s on the bolsters. 🙄)

Does you Classic Carbon RR1736 have a properly cut (or stamped?) pull so that the thumbnail don't slip off?

The first one I bought felt like the top of the pull on the main had a slight tilt, and it was shallower than usual, making it difficult to open the blade.

I ordered a second rather than return for an exchange under warranty. Since stock was low, and I didn't know if there would be another run, I figured with my lack of luck or bad luck, (take your pick) they would be sold out before my knife reached them. 🤨

The second is great. One of my favorite user carbon steel canoes. 😁👍

The first went back in the box and into the cabinet.
If the need ever arises, I can "fix" the bad pull with my (faux) Dremmel ... at the cost of the "match strike" bit ... 🙄
Thanks, Steve. :)
I've never noticed any problems opening my RR carbon canoe, so I don't think there's anything wrong with the nail nick on mine.

Good looking canoes Gary. 😎👍
Thanks, Todd. :)

Good to be back posting again! @Jakeywax31 helped me with the photo things, thanks Paul.
I’ve gotten several recent acquisitions, here is one that came my way from @Will Power. Thanks for making it available to me Will.
😎👍
Congrats on the gunstock pattern, Todd.:thumbsup::cool:
What are the covers on that one? At first I thought it had stripes, but then I decided I was under the influence of a bunch of knives posted lately with striped handles, and I was just seeing stripes on yours where there were reflections. But then I saw a different photo in another thread and switched back to thinking it DOES have handle stripes.

Paradisiac pair Pat! 😉👍
I don't think I've ever seen that word before, Todd, but I knew exactly what it meant.:thumbsup::thumbsup:
I looked it up anyway and there were 4 or 5 synonyms that I had never heard of (some with slight changes in spelling, some looking "more adverbial"). Like the Reader's Digest used to advise me monthly when I was a kid, it pays to increase your word power! ;)

This week, I'm carrying a Lockwood Brothers knife that @Jack Black sent to live at R8shell's Home for Old and Worn Out Knives.

Not wanting to remove as much metal as would be necessary to restore the tip or straighten the edge, I just sharpened it and put it to use for light tasks. A most ergonomic letter opener.

Handsome horn handles on that venerable knife, Rachel!:cool::thumbsup:

Hey all. It’s been a long, long time. Maybe years since I last stopped by. I’d gotten on a Victorinox kick, and my slipjoint collecting kind of abruptly ended.

I made this custom alox SAK last year, and it’s been in my pocket ever since. It’s sort of an Electrician Plus with an added wood/metal file layer, torx pivots, and a set of old cross scales that were kindly given to me. I also reused the old brass liners and lanyard attachment from an older knife.

I call it the WoodChipper. The intention was to create a rather minimalist SAK, based on the 93mm alox frame, with all the tools needed for wood working in a bushcraft environment. I’m happy beyond words with how it turned out, and it is now a constant companion in my everyday life, as well as nature outings.

I do still grab a more traditional slipjoint from time to time, as the need arises. The main ones being a couple of stainless Case mini-trappers. The Case Beer Trapper gets regular duty on my back porch, right next to the beer fridge, and the Case bone stag mini-trapper, with a wharncliffe blade, sort of lives in “that Drawer”, where everything I need kind of hangs out. We’ve all got one of those drawers, right? That wharncliffe blade is so thin and sharp and pointy, it does things that no other blade in my collection is capable of doing.

I’m not quite sure what to do with the rest of my knife collection. Part of me says to horde them all, including the extensive collection of GEC’s. The other side tells me to sell them off as I begin to downsize before retirement. I’m……… terribly conflicted.

Welcome back, Buzz! :)
Your WoodChipper is awesome! :cool::cool::thumbsup:
Do you still have all your magnificent old camp/scout/engineer/utility knives?

That’s a beauty, Jeff. Try to hang on to this one! I have never sold a knife. Given them away, but then I have nothing that could be remotely called a Safe Queen.
And that one of yours would no longer qualify as a Safe Queen if it was mine. It begs to be used hard.

How many variations did GEC make on the 98 frame? I think I see three this morning.
Any chance your Whittler is a split spring?
Thanks for the Franklin info, Bob. :)

I don’t see why they’d make you file quarterly as long as you are paying up on time, but nothing would surprise me.
Years ago, I used an accountant to deal with my tax mess due to being a salesman with lots of obscure deductions. When she quit, I went back to picking up the forms at the library, and doing them with a pencil and calculator. Then, they stopped the forms, then my old desktop could not run tax software.
So now I gather it all up, and let an accounting firm handle it again. Our taxation system is a travesty.

When you mentioned Reader’s Digest, it reminded me of my Grandparents. They had a subscription, and I’d read them at their house. Good for people who don’t really like reading, but want to be able to say they’ve read a book. 😜

If I were an author, I’d be ticked at what they “digested” out.

A cloudy start to the day here in the City by the Bay! Well I’ve started to get my test results back and not only is there arthritis in both hands it’s also in my feet. Waiting to hear back from my doctors so they can explain the results in layman’s terms. The important thing is that I’m still above ground and vertical! In the meantime keeping me company today the usual lamb and #23. Have a great day folks! 😀
