What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

That's makes for a good Thursday buddy! :thumbsup: 🤠
More Case goodness!

Thank you buddy ! :thumbsup::thumbsup:😊🐎

I'm usually not a big trapper guy, but these are 🔥.

Very very nice ! :thumbsup: 😊

carrying the fixed blade around my neck is the best way to carry it . Really like this Russell Green River
RGR, Hudon Bay/Trade Knives and other period knives the same size, and smaller hung from the neck was a popular carry method by mountain men, "indians", early explorers, and settlers, up to the 1860's too. 😇👍

No belts (or pockets) in men's wear for a lot of years, you know.
Suspenders to hold their trousers up, and haversacks/possibles bags to carry small items were the "norm" for guys for several hundred years.

Been out of town the past 10 days and not spending as much time on The Porch as I usually do. Here are some kind of old posts that I thought were worthy of comment. :thumbsup:🤓:thumbsup:

Thanks Gary. Two letters are going to be a stretch, be lenient with me.
I wasn't sure what the 2 difficult letters would be for you. I guessed maybe X and Z, but you had no problem with Z, and I thought your example for X was well-played. :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

T & U*
Titusville and Utica ( with explaination)
Utica changed their tang stamp around 1937 to kutmaster. So I put forth this knife as a Utica. 🤗
The Kutmaster = Utica play was clever (and that muskrat is very handsome), but I was surprised you didn't have an Ulster. (Neither do I, but I'm missing lots of knife makers that you have.)

V & W
Voos & Wostenholm.
Matching covers for V & W! Now you're just showing off! 🤓:thumbsup::thumbsup:

X, Y & Z
Xacto 🥺, Yssingeaux & Zenith
This was a stretch.
Yssingeaux is an old style from the Auvergne region of France.
The end
I thought you'd go for Case XX for X if you got desperate. I have a Handyman's Club of America canoe that used to always show up online as "XYZ Brand", so I'd have been able to lend you that. ;) I don't know offhand of a better choice for Y.

I want to say thanks to everyone for putting up with my Gary@5K Qs A to Z challenge.
I was duly impressed, even amazed, by how easily you made it through the alphabet, Bob! :thumbsup::cool::cool::thumbsup:

It's a Richards I found at a local convenience store, of all places.
Someone had brought in a bunch of old Richards slip-joints, so they had them for sale...and I bought all of them. :)

The tip and the edge near the tip on this one was really wrecked, so I reground a new tip for it.
Pretty sure it is celluloid scales on it.

Made in England.
Thanks for the info. :thumbsup::)
I should have noticed the "clipped on" bolsters and figured Imperial or Colonial or Richards. Did you find it brand-new at the convenience store recently, or did you find it many years ago? I still think the orange covers are grand! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Sensational stag on your whittler! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

This US Schrade 897UH Premium Stockman has spent some time with me today.

IMHO, that's the quintessential medium stockman! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

Moving the boys home from college for summer break. Carried a Izula and Queen Jack. I finally seen their remodeled wrestling facility too.
Hey, I live less than 20 miles from GVSU's Allendale campus, and less than 10 minutes from their downtown Grand Rapids campus! GVSU has some very successful athletic programs. I used to know several people in the math department at GVSU, but they were not much younger than me, so they may be retired by now.

Nutty goodness, Chris! :cool::thumbsup:🤓

View attachment 25617014 blade barrel knife today. It should probably be a 3 blade barrel knife, the main blade and the little Wharncliffe fight with eachother for the same space. I do like having a little saw blade though.
Very cool knife! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: I have a single-blade model that I have a hard time NOT carrying.

I know it's not super rare or anything, but I've been looking for the Case chestnut CV swayback jack for quite a while. I've seen a few on EBAY but they all went for crazy high prices. Well I FINALLY found one for a reasonable amount.

Congrats on the 2-blade CV chestnut SBJ! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:
I think that's one of the best small knives anyone makes!

Cool muskrat! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup: I have a large stockman with same covers and blade "treatment" that's a "bombproof" knife (thanks, Tom):

IMHO, one of GEC's very best models, John! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

My buddy sent me a random knife he picked up at a garage sale as a gift n it turned out to be a beautiful Camillus TL-29.
Congrats! :thumbsup::cool::cool: I have one just like that and think it's one of my best-looking knives.

Vibrant vintage knife, José! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

That ebony cattle knife is very distinctive and distinguished! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Congratulations GT! I hope your new son in law is a good man 😀.
Thanks, Dan. :) He seems like a great guy, and at the wedding, one of his friends pointed out that it was the first time he was not "the better person" in his romantic relationships. Kind of obsessed with the Minnesota Timberwolves and various beers (mostly IPAs).

This will be the first time that I’m aware of, that a dowry consisted of a canoe.

Hope it’s a fantabulous family time, Gary.
Safe travels.
Thanks, Jeff. :) We spent 5 days in St. Paul, plus a couple of days coming/going, then 3 days in Menasha WI and a day getting home from there, including my first trip on the car ferry from Milwaukee to Muskegon MI. Good times throughout the trip, for the most part. Got home last evening and spent much of today trying to regain control of the jungle our lawn had become after just 10 days.

I hope you enjoy the time away and the wedding is filled with joy Gary.🥂
Thanks, Bob. :) One of the things I enjoyed most about the wedding (besides escorting my daughter down the aisle with neither of us falling🤓) was seeing many of her friends from throughout her life gathered together to celebrate with her: friends from her string quartet that started in high school and continued through college, friends from the very first day of her college dorm experiences, friends from her 6 years in Spain, friends from her grad school days and her subsequent jobs in Twin Cities.

Continuing the Sowbelly theme, it's the Ebony single blade Sowbelly again today. We'll be busy from now on out. Cindy's sister-in-law that lives just up the road from us was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer yesterday. Stage One but stilllll it's gonna be a beotch traveling down that road. Cindy and I will be busy for sure.

Sausage and eggs for breakfast.
Prayers for the sick lady, for her medical team, and for you, Cindy, and other family and friends.

Schrade Walden Whittler, Ulster, and Jack In The Pulpit.
Great photo, Jeff! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Terrific Timber, Tom!! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Keeping it simple with my case canoe today.

IMG-3843.jpg
Simply beautiful! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

I have to be honest... I've carried this knife many times but still haven't ever used it to cut anything.
Awesome stag trapper, John, with a very cool shield! :thumbsup::cool::cool:
Is the shield a custom mod, or did GEC make it that way?
