What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

These today:

The Cooper S&M Barlow is finally picking up some patina (courtesy of last night's hash browns and eggs with ketchup). The 81, just untubed yesterday, hasn't had an opportunity. Yet. I didn't know if I'd keep this 81 - but that's because I probably don't know myself as well as I should. 😂

All these curved edges - I see a lamb in today's future...

Offshore 8OTB?
I have the 858OTB.
The 9CR18MoV blade steel seems to hold a descent edge, and is e-z to sharpen when needed.
Yes, it’s a recent purchase so I haven’t been able to test the steel out too much just yet. It along with the Heritage series I just purchased have fine fit n finish along with no blade rub. Which is more than what I can say for most Case knives I buy these days unfortunately.
Splendid knife! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:
(I probably haven't thought about Cheez Whiz (or Velveeta) in at least 50 years!)
Thank you!

Hopelessly behind here on the forum. Work, family and life in general have me hopping, but things are more than good here and I feel blessed for that.
I hope all our friends here and everyone in the southeast affected by the hurricane finds hope and recovery from the tragedy that has hit them. 🙏

Copperhead in waterfall cell and a bone single spear blade are in my pocket for a couple days.

I think you meant “work, family, and scouting for whitetail”.
Long time no post. Hope everyone is doing well. Got this nice old TEW that Glenn worked his magic on and the speyed bunny knife tonight for my shift.

Fantastic mods, Paul!
Good to see your post, because I was wondering if you’re ok. Are the leaves starting to turn up there at Ft. McCoy?
A couple of pawn shop junk box finds, all for under $8 total. Both are USA made and not too bad. I had to work the profile out on the main on the electrician. It had been ground on and all but ruined. Glad I could bring it back around. The Ranger is a 3 springer. Gonna be good work knives!View attachment 2676588
Based on my extensive research on the ‘bay, two kinds of knives are most likely to have been “sharpened” by angry beavers~ TL-29s, and Schrade 8OT Stockmans.

I have a bunch of Camillus TL-29s bought for less than postage suitable only for parts.

Nice buy and save🤙

Happy Friday. Here’s the pile side of this K’roo. The springs are perfectly flush. Very nice. There’s a little figuring on the warthog tusk on this side. Too bad I’m not a physician. Not even a doctorate. It’s my afraid of needles knife.

Miscellaneous Knife this week is a Keen Kutter with cocobolo covers (thanks, Mark). A couple of BF members helped me locate catalog cuts for this knife, and it turns out, based on the model number on the tang, it was originally a spey blade:

Fine choices Gary. I like the reprofile of your keen kutter.👍🏻

Case's blade rub on a 2 spring 3 blade stockman at their price point makes no sense.
Case claims (quote) "Blade rub goes with the pattern, and is not covered under warranty." (end quote)

I have 23 Rough Rider/Ryder 2 spring stickmans, plus a BTI Schrade offshore 858OT and a 858OTB.
All the Rough Rider/Ryder were under $15 with tax and shipping. Most were $10 or a little less.
The two offshore 858's were closer to $25 each.
(I don't know about the even lower cost offshore Imperial stockman's, since I don't have one.)

None have any blade or liner rub.
(Neither do my vintage Old Timer 858, 8OT, 4" Imperial hollow bolster, Imperial Forester, Ka Bar 1109 and 1081 stockmans. I won't know if the incoming Western 742 has blade/liner rub until I get it. From the seller's pictures, I don't think it does.)

As "proud" of their knives Case is (the 75, for example is around $90 to $100 plus now) I don't understand why their stockman's have blade rub, when a (currently) $12.⁹⁵ to $25 Rough Rider and offshore Old Timer/Uncle Henry lacks that "feature".

I got up an hour and a half early this morning in order to have a couple extra cups of coffee to steel my nerves for what is to come this afternoon. Cindy and I are taking "Utah" the Long Hair, Piebald, Doxie to the Vet at one o'clock for shots and overall examination. She'll ride on Cindy's lap with her head out the window, ears flapping, and nose in the wind but when we get to the Vet, it's just going to be panic city, breaks on, with a lot of sniveling and whining. It's gonna be fun!! I'll be totin a Sod Buster Jr.

Good luck Ed.

That look would get me to do anything for her. What a sweet heart.😍

I know what you mean, Ed. My old lab, Gunny, always went everywhere with me in the pickup. But twice a year, when we'd turn down the road where the vet is on, he'd try to find a place in the truck to hide. He was the smartest, friendliest, nicest lab I ever had, but he was as uncooperative as he could possibly be in the vet's office.

Edited to add a pic of Gunny. RIP Gunny.
