Your gunboat canoe is a winner, Harry! (Maybe you should give your heirs my name in case I'm still around when they're trying to figure out what to do with it.Same thing as yesterday photo and all :

Got this Canoe 2 days ago for a insanely low price . I was drawn to it because I have never had a Canoe pattern before and it was some good looking Stag .
Made in 1977 by Kissing Crane and it is #4942 out of 5000 made . It appears to me that it was maybe never used . Still has sharp edges on all 3 Blade Spines . Was kind of sticky when I got it but oiling and compressed air fixed that . This knife Is Not a comfortable knife to use because of the unopened blades . I will carry it some but most likely will always have another knife in my pocket to use . The knife does however add to my meager collection of Different Patterns and Stag . Just another knife for my heirs to figure out what the heck to do with .
Harry
Good-looking half congress, Bob; I like the coloring of the handle!Ospreys have returned, spring is here.View attachment 2835307
Jeff, the colors of your knife handles remind me that the Detroit Tigers are off to slow start for the current MLB season. Your knives are winners though!...

Time to deadhead the sedum.
...
Steve, I always admire the Daily Duos you post, especially the ones with golden brown bone handles. This pair doesn't fit that description, but they're still a notable pair; I especially like that cattle knife!
Magnificent micarta, David!
Quality quartet, Greg; I admire the variety of whittlers you post!Carried the Queen 4L and GEC 29 Friday through Sunday.
Switched over to the Case and Buck creek today.

I was going to suggest the same one (middle knife) as Mike, but for more boring reasons. I'd just say go with the 2-blade knife with endcap.
Triple play for the win, Patrick!I lied, I have three knives today!

Jeff, that knife looks great for its age, and I'm sure the same is true for you! This morning I pulled out my big ol' Queen stockman that's just about the same age as I am. Lovin' the real winterbottom bone!

That's a very handsome RR stockman, Lance! To be honest with you, I can’t come up a single reason not to like that knife. The fit and finish are fantastic! It feels good in hand, and has all smooth transitions. The blades are very snappy, and solid. It’s not just a nice knife for the price, it’s a nice knife period! Lance
Will, your Böker copperhead is certainly not a joke; very appealing knife!
I'm not familiar with that Spanish knife pattern, José, but I like it!Tramuntana from Spain with ram's horn handle, 440 steel blade.

Nice knives, Dan!A stormy day here in the City by the Bay! Off and on showers are in the forecast for today. Staying home with my best buddy Lou and keeping warm and dry. Hanging out with us a couple of blue beauties. Have a great day folks!View attachment 2836467View attachment 2836468
Mike, do you have lawn mower races at the county fair? Looks like you're pretty serious about it!
Golden Oldies!
That's a cool variation, Lance; do they call it a "gunstockman" pattern, or what?
Very distinguished canoe; ebony always adds some class!
That copper version looks great!Slim in the pocket.

Ever since I gave the Douk-Douk to a friend I've gone back to the Mercator. Good carbon steel, shiny copper.
Triumphant Trio, Dave!
How do you get patina on the tangs? Most of my carbon steel blades have decent patina, except the tangs stay fairly shiny. Maybe I'm not a messy enough cutter?Cool barlow. The swedge on that blade is. Here’s my Blade Show Texas purchase Case XX Barlow taking on patina nicely. View attachment 2837182

My brother is fortunate to have 3 active nests on the creek his yard backs up to. They do not seem to be very territorial. They are amazing fisherman/ladies.Good-looking half congress, Bob; I like the coloring of the handle!
When we vacation on the shore of Lake Huron in August, I enjoy watching ospreys doing high altitude fishing along the shore.
Bob, some knives are historic, but that beauty is wonderfully prehistoric.

I haven't seen any mower races locally., but I have seen lawn tractor pulls which are funMike, do you have lawn mower races at the county fair? Looks like you're pretty serious about it!

Somebody at Case: "Put Whaler on the blade so some nimrod on Blade Forums doesn't call it a Loom Fixer."
Timing a barrel to 12:00 TDC be hard, ya know...Thanks, I bought it many years ago at the San Francisco Gun Exchange and noticed the front sight blade was bent to one side. When I asked about it they told me to take it out and shoot it because he believed that the original owner did that so it would shoot straight and he was right! Not that I can hit anything past seven yards accurately with that short barrel.
My late son had a Buell. I said "let me try it".More than you probably want to know:
The whole concept of a 150 mph mower is absurd

I love the shape of the spear on the Otter MesserGenerally like to have a stainless knife & a carbon one about me. Single-blade and 2-3 blade pattern.
Today it was an Otter in some type of Mahogany and a GEC Cougar-Claw single-spring![]()

Thanks for the compliment and the SAK link, Gary!Notable pair, Frank!(Although I'm sure not everyone agrees.

Your gunboat canoe is a winner, Harry! (Maybe you should give your heirs my name in case I'm still around when they're trying to figure out what to do with it.) But your gunboat isn't really representative of the "usual" canoe pattern; you still ought to give yourself a chance to try out the 3 5/8" closed, clip/pen 2-blade version of the canoe pattern.
Good-looking half congress, Bob; I like the coloring of the handle!

Sowbelly version? The checkered bone covers are splendid!
Your opinion on the knife is how I assess most of the many RRs I have.

Thanks for the links, Jeff!I'm sure I've run across the first one before (hard to forget "Part 5 of a 2-part series"), but I had lost the link to it. I find this tang stamp guide from SAKwiki to be helpful for trying to estimate date of production for 91mm SAKs:

Nice knives, Dan!Wasn't there an old song about you and Lou and knives of blue?? I found it, but I didn't have the title quite right:

Cool knife by any name, Bob.

I've always liked the "raw" finish as seen on your fixed blade. I have seen it called many names Jeff. How is yours labeled?
Since I do not know much about Canoe Knives : Is being over 4" in length make it a Gunboat ???? Or what does ????Your gunboat canoe is a winner, Harry!
