Still reporting from WV; today was pretty wet and windy. I’m still carrying the #91 BF Stockman. We fished all day except for about an hour when we stopped for lunch. Around 5:00 we put the boat on the trailer, and I filleted the trout we kept. Tomorrow we’re trying a different lake; hopefully we’ll be able to get on ‘em.

There's a lot of myths about carp. Growing up ppl would say you have to know how to clean them(because of a mud vein) and like you said about cooking them. Other than the US, It seems the rest of the world highly regard carp as a game fish.

Carp have no mud vein. What they do have are Y bones which act as a 2nd set of ribs. The same as a Pike or Musky. After their properly fileted and cooked, their meat is white, flaky and delicious!

Here's another one for you, which is straight from Eastern Kentucky. You should try smoked Blue Back or Horny Head Creek Chub. Smoked chub will make a freight train take a dirt road!
I just about spit my beverage onto my screen lol! One of my best buds in the corps was from NC and he was the first to introduce me to "make a train take a dirt road." My kids say it often...

As a partially-raised-NCian, I approve this message!
LOL! He is one of the best people I've ever met. We called him "Toon". He was hilarious. Good Marine to boot. Also imparted this saying: "lost as a fart in a whirlwind."

I've only been to NC once, to Asheville, but man o' man that is gorgeous country. Been to CO a few times too and also beautiful country. You won the jackpot! :)

Those trout sure look good!

What I find interesting is that rainbow trout, which is native to the western US, is widely found in the east. And brook trout, which is native to the eastern US, is the most common fish I see in the high country lakes in the Sierra Nevada.
