What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

And now, let's take a moment to pay our respects to whatever critter donated it's earthly remains to feed the buzzard...

We live in the mountains, and have a big vulture population. There are always hawks, vultures, and even eagles circling around here. The buzzards always seem to start circling when me & the dog head back the road for our daily walk. Heck, I go so slow in my pickup that they even follow me up & down the road.:)

I'm taking a week-long break from my usual rotation schedule just to give me a chance to carry/post some knives that I've acquired since I last updated that rotation schedule. My next schedule revision probably won't occur until the end of this year (at the earliest), and I don't want to wait that long to carry these knives. (Most of them have spent much of their time in the kitchen since they arrived, where I can use them periodically for food prep.)

I tried to see if I could make my newer knives fit into the categories I use for my rotation schedule, but they don't really correspond to the categories that well. I'll try to remember as I post them this week to mention the categories in which they'll eventually "live" in the rotation schedule.

I usually start off each week with a couple of Canoes of the Week on Sunday, but none of my recent acquisitions are canoes. Today I'll just post one knife, a Rough Ryder Reserve jigged bone hawkbill pruner with D2 blade (thanks, ED). At 3.5" closed, it's a little smaller than many pruners I've seen, so it carries nicely in a pocket, which I like. I'll probably put this pruner in the "Work Knife" category of my rotation schedule.

I've used it a lot for cutting vegetables and fruit, and I've been surprised at how well the hawkbill blade shape works if I just keep the "beak tip" of the blade on the cutting board so most of the cutting is done by the front, vertical part of the blade. It also has become my favorite knife by a big margin for cutting open the plastic wrapping of a 1-pound "log" of ground turkey that I want to drop into a frying pan to brown it. Any knife works well on the long straight cut along the length of the log, but I've often had trouble slicing open the ends where the plastic wrapper has several layers crimped together by a staple.

It’s a rainy day here in the City by the Bay🌧️. Well after spending almost a week in the hospital having antibiotics pumped into me intravenously to treat my c-diff and UTI it appears things are going in the right direction so I’m back home for the time being. Anyway keeping me company my Sunday regular The Modoc Special. Have a great day folks! 😀
