Giving this Maverick stockman a little sharpmaker love, then back in the pocket she goes! I know this is one of GEC's "unloved" patterns, but I have one in Burnt Stag too, and I love them both. Awesome blade combo, and comfortable in the hand.

D.B. nice to see a Maverick getting some love. I find it to be a fine whittling knife and oft think about getting the denim acrylic. The three short blades make for good maneuverability...even tho I'm terrible at whittling.

today gonna make a Buck;)

My favorite thread to check everyday. Lovely knives.

These two with me today:

Hey bud. nice to see another Sharpmaker user. Could you give m your process? I like to compare notes!

...while it's late to bed for me.

...and Meako is posting at 4 in the afternoon.

Such is life on a global forum.

LOL! It makes you think sometimes Frank :thumbuip: Only early evening here, but after a 5.00am start I'm shattered!

Looking good Gev

Picked these up in the market today. Lovely bone on the old Elliot Stockman, but while the blades are still tight, there isn't much left of them unfortunately :( The Southern & Richardson Pruner needs a clean-up and re-peening (small piece of bone missing from the pile side). Ibberson Action Knife is unused, and was still in its wallet. STAG Scout is minty - apart from the complete absence of the mark side shell! :D

This little LF&C made in my Mother's home town on the other side of the river from me. Need to find a Challenge next.

Oh yeah, I love geeking out over sharpening!
I start with the edges of the medium rods, especially with GEC, they come pretty dull. If theyre especially dull, i set the bevels with a Norton coarse stone, then go to the corners of the medium Sharpmaker rods, then the flats of the medium. Usually 10-15 strokes medium pressure, then 10 strokes very light pressure. I find that this gives me a toothy, hair popping edge with minimal work. I dont usually go to the fine rods on 1095. It seems that its extra time for not much extra sharpness. And since 1095 requires periodical touch ups to remain sharp, i dont spend all the time on polishing or stropping. Just 5 or 6 light passes on the flats of the medium rod, and its good to go.

The fire happened one late Autumn night in the old hill barn. The old farmer had just finished fitting a spoke on the wheel of the phaeton carriage he used to go into town for supplies. After hooking up the team, the mare got a little spooked. As the carriage lurched, it contacted the beam which held a kerosine lamp. Falling from it perch, it smashed to the ground, catching fire to the straw covered floor. He found the Shapleigh the next morning, right where he had been using it, under some debris. :D ;)

Just got this from FedEx. small folder, blade 440C stainless steel, scales in Yucatecan Guayucan wood, shield made of a silver 10 centavo coin. I'm liking it.
