• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I'm glad you like it. I touched up the edge on mine, and the steel didn't seem as soft as I expected, so it might hold up to a bit of work.

I certainly do :) I sharpened mine too. Cut some cardboard out earlier, and it seems OK. I was thinking of maybe thinning the edge out a little at some point, I'll have a think about that one ;)

Yep. Harry, I use the bypass shears on the hydrangeas and roses around our house. The idea of using a pruning knife is intriguing. If I had a thimble of some kind and a sharp knife, I think cutting to the first bud would be quicker and less chance of crushing the branch. And, deadheading would be a snap! Of course some woody plants, just require the shears. Sharpening those things is a little tougher than a knife though.

Have you ever tried an Opinel garden pattern? I wonder if they have a larger hawkbill as you were mentioning about the Ward's or you dad's knife?

I have never had an Opinel of any pattern yet . I would suggest that to try the pattern get a $10 Linoleum knife at Home Depot or maybe a real cheap folder. When I found my old Wards , they were selling a radiused sharpening stone with it . What I really use to sharpen my Hawkbills with though is an old hand crank sharpener made by the Daisy Churn company . It does an acceptable job of grinding around the radius of the blade. If you want , I can post a picture of the Daisy later .

Thanks Buzz...just getting into the scouts, mainly the newer delrin covered ones. I do have to give a Thanks to you because many of your posts of your scout collection and your insights to the scouts out there have been very educational to me.

With the talk of carrying multiple knives, I have carried as many as 16 between pockets and belt sheaths, with different uses in mind for each.

Alan, I'm not retired yet (although this month I've been thinking I should be :o), but I carry 12 knives each day (but the same 12 for a week at a time)! :D Some people make fun of me for that, but I didn't carry a knife for about 45 years, so I have a lot of catching up to do. :p

I'm going to say you have an above average carry every day, Gary! There was a fellow here on BladeForums many years ago (he may still be here, but I don't go to the General Knife discussion forum anymore) who had a coat that had a passel of pockets in it for his knives. I think he had you beat, but not by much!:thumbup:

Definitely ten out of ten Dean

Thank you, Jack!

For this Wooden Wednesday I made an executive decision to be more Presidential ......;):D

Great choice, Ron. I like the touch of brown in the Ebony.

Carrying this guy today. Somehow I got a little scratch on the blade already. I have been using it, so I think that is okay with me.

Thanks Alan. I'll be practicing some bushcrafting skills with the Nocturnal, its gonna be my camp carry along with a Buck 119. The TC is carried for its looks:D

This lambsfoot hasn't left my pocket for a while now... It's such a utilitarian blade... A. Wright...

Got ya. It looks like a great small camp knife. I understand carrying the TC for looks. I have decided, rational or not; not to use my Charlie SFO's, but to use most or all of my other GEC's including at least one of the DLT 74 SFO"S I have. Like I said, may not be rational but it feels right to me. Charlie's knives are so special.

That's a NICE one

I have a long day in Sheffield tomorrow. Packing a few penknives (ivory & MOP) and my Buffalo A.Wright Lambsfoot

Looking good Jack. How do you like that carrier? I have the Spyderco folding nylon thing. I use it, but don't like it so much. The knives slide out too easily.
