Thank you Harvey.

Schrade Walden MC 1, Viet Nam Era.
What a lovely lady in red!

Then he placed them on the bar:
I'd of loved to see your face when he laid those on the bar. Fantastic knives and a mighty thoughtful friend.

One of the coolest knives going !!! /always a treat to see
Thank you Gev.

Not red, Dwight, shot in low light, and or filtering not good. It’s flame orange, actually created by the Day Glo people. But thank you anyway.

Harvey is it a switch? (auto)

Harvey's maybe different, but I think that model ( MIL-K-10043) is auto.
- Stuart

It’s an automatic parachutist knife issued by the Government to Air Crew. The main blade is the hook blade and not the clip point. The main purpose was to cut canopy lines if tangled, with one hand. The number is MIL-K-25549. All that I’m saying is from research, and not from experience. Stewart would know far more and better than me. The knife is almost in NOS condition. Everything functions perfectly. I just saw it available and fell for it, especially after reading its’ history.

I just looked at the tang stamps. They indicate that this was the first version of the Schrade MC-1.

Otter with bone handle. This knife has a smooth pull, not too light either, so it is one of my favourites. Also I like the looks very much, an old school gentleman's knife with some size.

I carried one of those back in 1966-70. At the time there was a common rumor going around out of the rescue/rigger shops that the knife was one of the many government contracts gone bad, and the shroud cutter (the hook) was supposed to be automatic opening, (which would’ve made alot more sense) & not the blade. Out of curiousity I checked it out a few years ago on the error-net & that rumor proved to be false.

I have a nice WWII era (steel liners) Robeson electrician which was a recent gift from @Old Engineer ~ thanks, Harry!

With it is this big ebony handled cigar jackView attachment 1103617Purists would have passed on this when they saw the crudely cut, homemade easy open notches, or the worn and scratched blades, but I love this old boy. I used the dremel to polish out the ragged EO notches. The blades on this beast took a wickedly sharp edge.
The original tang stamp appears to have been ground off and overstamped with

PHILA
This is what I found out about it:
