thanks @Buzzbait and @Whetstone39 !, very helpful. Don't think i'll re-profile (way above my skill level), just some touch-up sharpening in near future. I will definitely practice on a beater before the good onesGreat pairing Stuart, that is one beautiful fixed blade
Hey Laurel - I normally use my Wicked Edge system to change an edge angle to 30 or 40 degrees inclusive, and then maintain that edge angle using my Sharpmaker. However in this case, I tried and was unable to clamp the Shuffler into the Wicked Edge system in a position that would allow full range of motion on the right side of the blade. I have one of the original Wicked Edge systems without the free floating clamp jaws, and it can be difficult to use on thin traditional style blades without an angle extender (in my opinion).
As @Buzzbait pointed out above, the diamond rods for the Sharpmaker make reprofiling some of the more abrasion resistant modern steels much easier. It would have taken FOREVER with just the grey stones and M390 steel.
I converted the edge to 30 degrees inclusive by marking both sides of the edge with a sharpie marker, then using the diamond stones grinding both sides at the 30 degree back bevel position, one stroke per side, until the marker was removed. Then grinding one side only, still on the diamond stones, until the burr developed on one side, then the other. I removed the burr using edge leading strokes on the grey stones (the flats only, I don't use the corners as they can round the tip) then developed the burr on both sides using the grey stones, removed the burr with the fine stones, and then proceeded through the fine and ultra fine stones alternating one stroke per side. I really like the edge the Sharpmaker can produce, very sharp and easy to maintain. I does take a little practice to get used to the system.
Some of the knives I'll carry all week.

Fantastic pair Stuart. What beautiful burl!As visitors to the Beverages thread already know, I switched over to a Case 6209R last night. Before my nightcap, I took Loki for a walk and needed a cigar cutter. Today, I'm totin' it with this Mick Langley drop point hunter on my belt. The reflections in pictures show that we have a bright and clear day here. Finally.

Your Monster looks like it could actually chop up that wood. Cool.
I’ve got a couple of Vic florists with that same textured grip, and find it really inviting in feel. Your use of light really brings out that texture. Nicely done.
Now you’re talking, Stuart.An Habana Monte...Nice!
Perfection
Stuart, you're living large my friend!![]()

Thank you Stuart. The bone on your Camillus is sweet!
Nice old Engineer !
Stuart, both nice as they come - however the 6207 is stunning! OH
Great pairing Stuart, that is one beautiful fixed blade![]()
Fantastic pair Stuart. What beautiful burl!
Harry & Stuart, do you recommend that every traditional knife knut own at least one folding hunter? I don't have one, and I can't imagine carrying/using one very often (this dog don't hunt), but they surely seem to be an iconic pattern!
Hi Stuart, I've never seen a Schrade wire jack in new condition or that pattern. Yours looks like mine after it was caught in a vise.
Thanks Stuart! Your 6207 is a beautiful example my friend! I have one from ‘73 but it’s not as nice as yours. IMHO Case messed up a very nice Jack when they added that long Spey blade and switched the clip to a California clip to accommodate the nail nick on the Spey blade.![]()

Thanks, John & Nick.
Thanks for the background on your lambsfoot pair, Jeff.5K Qs ~ thanks for asking about my Lambfoot, Gary. I have to blame Harry, aka: @Old Engineer. His shameless flaunting of his two old Talylor’s Eye Witness LF, and forcing me to fondle one last year caused me to snag one with broken plastic scales. I broke that one down and re-scaled it with a little piece of figured walnut I’d been saving.
Then this year, he kindly bestowed a pretty little AW Wright on me which I think was in that pic. It’s all his fault. Maybe @Jack Black pays him a commission for LF recruiting???
...
Thanks, Jack....
Thanks pal, but I think you'd soon be telling me to shut up!![]()
Excellent line-up there my friend

Congrats on that eye-catching classic!Just got my Case Trapper that @stevekolt graciously gifted to me, and man is this thing pretty! Looking forward to carrying and getting acquainted with it!

Grand engineer, Stuart!... Also, in my pocket, a Camillus USMC Engineer's Knife with more tools than I'll need today.

It is hard to see in this picture, thankfully, that the the bottom pile-side bolster of the Engineer is corroded black, the only real blemish on a handsome old worker.

High-class canoe!
Thanks for the punny comments, Stuart!...
The canoe is a real showboat, GT, and the pen is alluring - and that's no bull.

Thanks, Harvey; I especially appreciate your pro opinion on my photo efforts.... Your knife menu look great, but the image of the Case Caliber Muskrat is spectacular.![]()
Nice carries for you today Gary especially your Lam Jack .
I don't know if everyone should have a Folding Hunter , but I needed one for my meager collection . I really like to carry mine , in fact I carried mine today while I was working outside . I kind of feel like they are indestructible , but I know they are not . I can highly recommend the Western and I expect that you could get one for less the a Case . The way you collect various patterns , IMHO YOU NEED ONE .
Harry
Thanks for your input about folding hunters, Harry & Vince.I've enjoyed my folding hunter (Buck 450--not made any more, I don't think). Mostly carried on belt for (infrequent) hunting trips or (frequent) camping trips. Don't do much of either anymore, although I think I have to take my daughter hog hunting this year. A Buck 110 would probably be better. I plan to get one.
Jaw-dropping pair, Stuart!... A 62042 (1965-1969) and a 6207 (1965-1969):...

Couple of keen oldies, Jeff!Official BSA Whittler, and Case 6254.
This was a promotional knife for Peabody Coal Co, and is the only Case I have that has the actual year of production stamped on the tang instead of dots and/or x’s.
