Cool shot, David!
I picked out this folder by the late J.M. "Mickey" Maddox to tote today. Mr. Maddox, of Ringgold, GA, learned to make knives from Ron Little and purchased some of Mr. Little's equipment and materials when he passed in 1977. I believe that this knife was made in the 1980's. Mr. Maddox died on December 5, 2015 at 89 years old. Well, I went outside to get a good picture of the knife only to find that we'd just had a cold drizzle and my intended photo prop, an upstanding ash log, was wet. Off came my shirt to protect the knife. Now, I was freezing and my hands were like butterfly wings holding the cell phone/camera. So much for photographic genius.

Edited to correct tree species from oak to ash.

I would also recommend posting an edit regarding Mr. Maddox. He is a friend of mine. He would be disappointed to hear of his passing. Give me a shout if you want to hear of how he is doing. I collect his knives and he, his Son and grandson are all well.![]()
Classy Dylan![]()
Thanks for the kind comments on my mystery maker knives, guys. Steve, I agree that the stamp does resemble the Queen stamp of 1984-1990 in an inverse way. Dylan, the fixed blade is fashioned after the mountain sheep hunting knife that the great Gil Hibben made for the famous gun/shooting writer Elmer Keith. Here's another by the same un-named maker that I'm going to tote today (albeit non-Thrifty - - Trapper Thursday, maybe) to continue the mystery:

Thank you Harvey, and thanks for the great laugh!!!Thank you JJ. Can you provide a notarized statement that this pair of beauts are 70 to 80 years old? They look like they were just made.Beautiful image.
What an amazing pair of Barlows today; I'll bet that fortune reads "...a deep appreciation of the finest cutlery!"
These two today. Fontenille Pataud Capuchadou in ebony and LaCombre three-finger fixed blade with a wicked brut de forge and forced patina on M390 steel in homemade micarta.

Thank you, Jack!
..
I love that patch, Jack! The knife isn't too shabby either.
A couple of humble working blades for me today.

Thanks so much, Jack!!!
That's very cool as it has both the Imperial and Schrade designations, showing the period when those two old giants merged! Your other two are not thrifty as they are far too grand!![]()
