What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

My go to hunting knife (#23L, with some help from Mr. @glennbad ). We went afield in Penn's Woods. We worked this bird for 2 1/2 hours with 4 different set ups.View attachment 1564721
Nice job! I was able to fill 1 out of 2 tags on my trip to Wisconsin, bagging my first Turkey. Plenty of close calls but just couldn’t finish it off. I may have to do this again! Aside from the early, early mornings...I had a blast!

Today was our daughter Scout’s first birthday. When she was born last year (which was quite an experience in those first couple months of the pandemic), I had this Tidioute #15 “Scout” in my pocket. This photo was taken at the hospital a couple hours after she was born.

I sought this knife out intentionally before Scout was born, obviously because of the shield, but also because the Nifebrite would match the #71 Bull Nose that I carried when my almost-5-year-old daughter Eleanor was born. I reached out to several friends here on the Porch looking for a lead, and I know many of you would’ve gladly helped — some kindly offered #15 Scouts with different covers —but I couldn’t believe it when JohnDF JohnDF offered to send me his Nifebrite #15 Scout, and wouldn’t even let me pay him for it! John, thank you again my friend!!:thumbsup:

Some of you may remember that I take a photo of Eleanor with her Bull Nose every year on her birthday, so of course I have to do the same with Scout. Here she is with her #15 today.

We took the girls to the zoo (Scout’s first time), which was a lot of fun.

After the zoo we picked up lunch and enjoyed it at a nearby park. I only mention it because this is the only photo I took of the other knife I had with me today, an Opinel No. 7, which I used to cut up some food for Scout. (I’ve never been very good at carrying a straight edge knife by itself, and usually have to drop something with a clip/spear/drop point in my pocket to go with it.)

Congratulations Barrett on your beautiful daughter’s first birthday. Looks like you had a great time. This was a very heart warming post, I especially like the tortoise picture!😄
Todd
Definitely an attractive knife, Todd!

Congrats on the new whittler, Todd!

Thanks Gary, I wish I would have gotten a single blade in those covers when they were available. Wasn’t sure I was going to like them from the website picture, it’s much better than the photo.👍

I don’t know what it is about the RR whittlers, but they are just kind of cool, really liking this one.😊

Boker Nessmi Pro

Great pic as always! Boker did a nice job on the Nessmi Pro. When I finally found a Solingen Nessmi I gifted my Pro to my youngest son, along with the book "Canoeing the Adirondacks with Nessmuk" . He and his young family spend a lot of time in Nessmuk's old haunts in the Adirondacks. He loves the knife and the stories.

Wow! Looks like a great time! Happy Birthday, Scout!

We took our 3 grandkids to the Dinosaur Safari at the NYS Fairgrounds yesterday, followed by a picnic. George will be 5 the end of May. My DIL texted us later that he told his mom, "this was the greatest day ever". Choked me right up!
It hardly matters what knives I was carrying, but it happened to be these.

A grand Peanut, GT. 🤠
They do such a good job with their jigged Delrin, looks so much like bone.
John, thank you again my friend!!
You are very welcome, my friend.
May it bring her a lifetime of good luck. :)
Absolutely precious!!! 🤠
another cool pairing there
Thank you, Jack. :)
Gorgeous Lamb, Jack. 🤠
Very cool Case Stockman, Jack. A #47?
You have really cool Robeson knives, love seeing them. 🤠
A Formidable Pair, 🤠

You also have some serious beauts’ and the varieties shown are such a rush
Thank you for those kind words. :)
Nice pair John, that Case Jack is on my list the next time I go to a Case dealer
Thank you, Todd. :)
I think the Case Medium Jack is the perfect knife to pull out and use in the general public... very people friendly.

My Sunday Totes...
FINE choices right there, John !!! Your Medium Jack looks similar to mine but yours has much better dye coverage. Had to give mine a tea bath ... did you modify the color on yours too, because on my computer monitor, it doesn't look as bright red as stock out of the box? Color looks pretty much like mine after the tea bath. I like the darker, richer color MUCH better than the bright "arrest me" red I did have LOL

Yes, I modified it with an overnight coffee bath... I don't drink tea. ;)

Me too. I have some red leather dye coming for some projects, I might try painting some of that on the bone to see what it does for it too.
