Thanks much, Dave!Nice job on the TL-29.
No judgement here, Ed. But your wife wants one of your Sodbusters! On the way home yesterday, we stopped at a Menonite farmer's nursery and the wife picked up a slew of perennials so, she'll be planting flowers all day while I'm watching "Midsomer Murders". I'll have this Case Sod Buster Jr. in my pocket so as to be in solidarity with her while she's performing her gardening tasks. Now don't be judgmental - I cut the grass on our riding lawn mower but that's it as far as the yard and plants go.

Plow and SB Jr are quite alike in several aspects. Blade thickness, handle width among them.I have been getting my money's-worth out of my work knives of late.
Also - looking at those maserin Plows... how do those stack up against a case sod jr?
Thanks. Those baldy cows raise some good calves and make great momsGreat picture!
First thing I noticed in your picture the other day was your “baldy” cattle, as we call them.
Awesome little fixed blade, John (nice sheath too). I’ll be interested to hear how you like carrying it. I really like small fixed blades, but I struggle finding a way I like to carry them.
Thank you very much, Todd! Thanks Dennis, nice photo, great knives and nice time pieces go well together.![]()
You're really hitting the ball out of the park with your leatherwork, John! Can't wait to see your saddle!Thank you, Dennis.
I'll have to send you one of my "new" models once I get some more leather.![]()
Thank you much, Jack! It's a good watch, but it eats through batteries too fast!Thank you very much Dennis, that's a cool pocket-watch to go with your elegant pocket-knife![]()

Sentimental favorites~ Siberian Iris. Brought a sackfull of tubers to this house thirty something years ago from Grandma’s place. She’d had them untold years, through three different locations. Just like the Bearded Iris in my first picture, I have them scattered all over the property. Three different perennial borders/gardens, and naturalized in the edges of the woods, and in the wildflowers. Everywhere I stick them, they seem to thrive and multiply.View attachment 1570318Wild buttercups that inadvertently came along with some Norway Maples I dug out of the ditch at a family place in Wisconsin.
Oh. Were we talking about knives? #23 Oregon Trapper which nails both Trapper Tuesday, and Tidiute Tuesday.
And a Camillus TL-29 I rehandled in cow bone.
Can never go wrong with a Peanut in the pocket!Starting off today with my Chestnut CV peanut. What better way to start a patina on a peanut than to cut cup cherry tomatoes for a small tortoise.

You always have such a fine menagerie to show each week, Gary! Each one a winner!Among the knives my rotation schedule assigned me this week are this quartet.

Real nice, John!
I plan to start using my BBB after I gift it to myself on my bday or father's day. Got too many knives too fast in 2021 and had to start hiding some lolDecided to switch it up to end the day. Haven’t had the BBB out in quite some time. Low light photo, but I figured if any knife will show up this one will.

Plow and SB Jr are quite alike in several aspects. Blade thickness, handle width among them.
Pull is the same on my two, I haven't had to try it, but might be able to adjust the pull on the Plow simple because it has a pivot screw.
The Plow does have a half-stop where the SB Jr does not.
My Plow weighs 2.4 ounces and my SB Jr weighs 2.08. Not enough to make any real difference in the pocket IMO.
I like that the Plow is available in wood or micarta. The SB Jr is also available in material other than delrin, but the handle is much thinner.
The Plow has a lanyard hole while the SB Jr does not.
D2 is a semi-stainless and comes in stonewash on the Plow, so while it will show less fingerprints and resist rust better than CV, it won't patina as nicely as CV.
D2 could arguably be a little harder to sharpen than CV but should hold an edge longer.
Looking at the blade profile, the Plow might be best for tip control and with that bigger belly, the SB Jr might excel as a skinner, but that is getting picky a bit.
I wouldn't give up my SB Jr. and now that I have the Plow, I wouldn't give that up either LOL
While I really like both about equally, I suspect the Plow will get more pocket and use time for some intangible reason I can't really put my finger on.
Bad lighting doesn't play nice with colors, grain detail and such, but here is a size comparison ...

They tend to come in bunches for me too.I plan to start using my BBB after I gift it to myself on my bday or father's day. Got too many knives too fast in 2021 and had to start hiding some lol
Those are really nice I love mine ! I have the CF version but man I’m liking your Micarta toI’ve been carrying this LionSteel Bolus since it arrived in the mail yesterday.

If I had a Plow do-over, I might go for the natural canvas micarta. Heck, I like the Plow so much, I might get it anyway HAB BrotherJim ,
I very much appreciate the side-by-side comparison and pictures. The wood looks nice on yours and a lanyard hole is fun to have.
I do like the "pointy-ness" of the maserin too - I am sure it comes in handy.
Oh darn - well I guess I will just have to give the maserin a whirl and see how it does.
Thanks again! Great info!
Thanks for the info! The GEC bullnose knives look really nice, and 1095 is easy to keep sharp - not a fan of a stiff open with nowhere to pinch :/ that is kind of a bummer - half the time I use I sodbuster, I have gloves on. Has it gotten any better (more smooth to open) since you got it?If I had a Plow do-over, I might go for the natural canvas micarta. Heck, I like the Plow so much, I might get it anyway HA
And of course, a similar pattern to the SB Jr is the GEC #71 BULL NOSE.
The Bull Nose has exponentially better fit and finish. No comparison whatsoever there. Exponentially better than the Plow too.
And the BN is much closer to size and blade profile of the SB Jr than the Plow.
Besides 1095 vs CV, the BN is flat ground while the SB Jr is hollow or semi-hollow ground.
Possibly the ONLY thing that keeps the BN from being favored above and beyond the SB Jr and the Plow is the pull of the BN
I can't pinch and open my 2017 Bull Nose. There is a blade swedge about 3/4 the length of the blade.
Just makes it too slippery for my fingers to grab a good hold. I HAVE to use the nail nick on my BN.
Not only the swedge, but the pull is exponentially stronger on the BN.
If the pull on the SB Jr and Plow is a 5, the Bull Nose has a pull of 7.5-8 and a gator snap.
At the end of the day, it might be the more pointy tip or ease to pinch and open, or a combination of many things including intangible, but I like the Plow a lot.
And nope, not giving up my beloved Bull Nose either LOL ... just hope with use, I will one day be able to pinch it open. Then I just might store my SB Jr(s) and Plow.
Has it gotten any better (more smooth to open) since you got it?
I agree - the natural micarta looks really nice. I am also interested to see if the burgundy is more on the red side, or if it is as grey in person as it appears in the pictures.
