What traditional knife are you keeping handy on the big day?

An old friend and in fact my very first GEC knife... the #55 Houndstooth in Autumn Gold bone.

Nice composition Blake, books with cases are a fine thing to have, so is the author, my namesake..

The knives I used over the past three days were: GEC 38 Farmer's Jack, GEC 25 EZ-Open Sheepfoot, GEC 92 Talon and one non GEC :D A Moki Blakiston's Fish Owl Lockback.

Regards, Will

Cant believe that fete would label you anything other than that by which you are known to us Will. ;)

Like to thank everyone for their contributions to my thread this Christmas. I think of myself as one fortunately enough to be blessed with friends and family with which to celebrate Christmas, not least all those on the bladeforums site. Merry Christmas to you all, and may you enjoy the rest of the festive holiday. Mark...AKA Blake the Blade.

Looks like I got next year's 'big day' knife too. :)

And to you Mark.

I got quite the chuckle on Christmas. After weeks of dropping hints and talking here about how my wife and daughter usually always get me some sort of traditional folder, my wife let my 6 year old daughter pick the gift out 100% on her own from my lengthy Amazon Wish list.

Where I was expecting a Case, I got a Schrade. Not a Sharp finger or an Old Timer pattern...a big ol' 1lb solid milled steel survival knife with a 7+" Blade and hollow handle with screw on waterproof cap.

...not exactly Porch appropriate. Still, it's a good knife that my daughter thought reminded her of Daddy. It's going to live in my Jeep as an indestructible back up.

What did the opening chores was a Rough Rider Doglegged Jack that I had forgotten I had in the kitchen drawer. The little spey blade zipped through tape and toy ties with ease. I had kind of forgotten how well made these little cheapies are.

I have decided that after the holiday, I'm going to head to the local swap store and treat myself to a new RR or vintage user Case that needs some TLC. If anything, my little girl's gift reminded me of a forgotten EDC and inspired me to pick up another budget buddy before splurging a bit February on my birthday.

...truth be told, I DID use that big ol' Schrade to unbox some bigger toys, and it was a lot of fun watching my daughter's eyes light up. Not a bad gift, but won't be my new watch pocket companion;)

That's a sweet looking well loved knife right there!

Nice story Jake. I like the sound of that big old Schrade your daughter picked out for you, a useful tool I reckon. Nice too that you've rediscovered your Rough Riders, they're great little users. Sounds like you and your family are having some fun this Christmas. All the best to you.
