When did your fascination with knives begin... and how. I think this will be an interesting thread.

I remember my first time. I purchased a real cheap knockoff SAK when i was around 8 years old. But my REAL OBSESSION and fascination began when one day i was shopping when i was 11 years old with my mum, i walked into an army store and... WOW! I began at one end of the counter looking at the SAK's and then moving onto the folding knives but the big WOW was when i reached the end and saw the Gil Hibben knives. That was when i was hooked. Although i never bought one, both my dad and mum disapproved but i never gave up. Then to my surprise i received my first knife around Christmas from my mum. She took me to the same store and let me pick. Never got to buy that Hibben knife... had to settle with a pocket knife:D

So whats your story?

I am NOT a knife-nut!.. I like sharp, pointy things, and I like to own, trade, buy, handle, and collect them, but I am NOT a knife-nut!. (At least that is what I tell my wife.:D.;).).

It was my obsession with finding the perfect pocket knife. Never did, but I'm having lots of fun trying:D !

My first knife I remember owning was a boyscout knife in grade school. Ever since then I've never looked back and have been buying all kinds of knives.

It wasn't until I found this forum that I actually admitted to myself that I am a knife-nut. Now I'm open about my collecting and proud of it!

Show someone a basic balisong opening, let them play with it for 5 minutes and they WILL be hooked.

Thats what happened to me:)

Boy Scout knives probably got me started so many years ago that I don't dare try to recollect.

Then, I hung around the edges of the hobby/obsession until a few years ago when I walked into a local B&M dealer and walked out with a BM 970(CQC7). Rekindled the whole thing again and here I am.

Now, I'm having more fun than ever!:D

My love of all things sharp & pointy started at a very early age. I remember watching my Dad & Grandpa's whittling with their pocket knives and wanting one for my very own. On my 7th birthday my folks got me a Kamp King (spelling?) pocket knife and I've been hooked ever since.

My grand father offered me a small knife when I was 10 years old.
In fact it was a keychain with a SAK type attached. Since this day, I always had a knife in my pocket.

My grand father died in January.

My Brother-in-Law, Jami Chiello, lives in Phoenix and was partners with Jim Lozon as they both designed the 'Cheyenne' auto. They decided to call themselves 'James Brothers', Sadly, Jami is no longer involved in knifemaking right now.

He gave me one as a gift (which I still have), and I remember being so surprised that a knife could cost over $200.00 !! That was only five years ago! I was such a rookie.

One of my friends back home admired my knife and took me to a local knife show. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! I had never seen so many ornate and different styles. I was hooked.

My biggest influence at that show was admiring and handling a Wolfgang Loerchner piece. It was *only* $3500.00 ! It was SOOOOOOOO beautiful, and it raised the spectre of Custom/Handmade knives as my next, ummmm...... Hobby!;)

It's been all downhill since.....

Gotta go with Tatoos line........I've always been a nut....and I really like knives!!!!!!! :p:p:p

My story works like this:

Back in the day (i.e. bout 4 or 5 months ago)... :)
I carried a Leatherman Wave, liked it, but it was just too bulky, I hated the way it would catch on things, it was hard to get in and out of the car etc, so I tried carrying around this Springfield M6 Scout that came more or less with my dad's 1911-A1, twas a cheap piece of crap knife, but was a pocket folder, and I found the carry method much to my liking.
One day I dropped by an online airgun shop, just to browse, that had just picked up the Benchmade line and was advertising it heavily, I went to the Benchmade site and discovered much to my surprise that there was such a thing as GOOD pocket folder.
But like most things of mine, I had to research the hell outta what I really wanted, so I asked about it on the meager knife forum at shooters.com, where I did all my gun talk...

I was then referred here, and slowly the folks at BF have sucked me into a BAD status :)

That is my story.

When I was 17, I saved up over summer and by chance, we went to a mall with a knife shop... I walked out with a CRKT M16-04 and that was my first real knife. Everything went downhill from there.

In High School, I did a term paper on the U.S. Green Beret's activities in Vietnam. The son of my history teacher was on an A-Team that lived with the Monteuards Tribemen and he ehlped me with the paper, and talking to him really impressed on me the need to always have a good quality knife handy.

When I was knee high to a grasshopper, my Grandpa showed me how to sharpen a knife (his was a Case Peanut, he gave me an old Barlow), I thought it was so neat that he made that little knife shave hair! I went through a lot of Band-Aids after that fine day....

Then MacGyver (the TV show in the mid 80's) quickly became my favorite show. Of course I had to have a SAK. My father, being very brand name concious, would only let me have a real one. So a Wenger it was! It wasn't until a few years ago I figured out he used a Victorinox in the series. Damn!

I've been hooked ever since that day with my Grandpa.

It is all your fault, all of you, and whoever invented the internet and my wife for allowing me to spend all this money and wolfmann601 and teacher and Mike Dye HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA.

oupa... Al Gore invented the internet didn't he?:D
Me? Oh I'm pretty sure it was an evil spell cast on me by a gypsie hag. Since then my wallet keeps getting thinner.

Hello everyone, my name's Tim and I'm a knifeolic. It's been 2 hours since I last touched my knives...

Seriously though, mine started when my Dad got me a Bowie knife with bone handles when I was a kid. My first knife, and it's still around...
