This is interesting. I had expected everyone outside of First Responders or the Military to list a small (3" or less) folder as their most used knife. There are a lot more fixed blades and larger folders listed than I had expected, including one individual whose profile seems to indicate that he is a chef and who, none the less, listed a Busse FBM as his most used knife. I wonder what people who are engaged in the 9 to 5 grind doing that makes a larger and/or fixed blade a practical option?
In my opinion, folders are, compared to decent fixed blades, ugly, impractical, not ergonomic, uncomfortable, unreliable and the craziest of all, more expensive.
Wow, have you owned and good quality folders? I too prefer a fixed blade over a folder any day, but I wouldn't give them that bad a rap. I carry my folder for convenience mostly, it slips in my pocket easily and can't be seen. None of my fixed blades are small enough to do that.
Well, that's a difficult question, seeing how I don't fancy folders. But yes, I have and do own folding knives that are, as far as folding knives go, technically good quality, like some of the more expensive Spydercos. Although, most of my "folding knives" are in fact more like multitools, like SAKs. I've never found the size of my normal user fixed blades to be troublesome with respect to daily carry or even concealment. If I wanted to carry a 9" knife for some reason, then it would be different, but any reasonably sized knife like a 3 to 5 incher is effortless to carry.

Do you carry on your belt? I did for a while, but found it annoying when I'd sit down, the handle would poke me or the knife would fall out (bad sheath.) I've not got any custom knives or fancy sheaths, so maybe that is my problemMy large fixed blades have "good" sheaths but are too big to carry, and my small fixed blades have lousy sheaths.
