What Two Knives Do You Use the Most

Personally, I never carry folders, except in the form of multitools. A folding knife is, to me, nothing more than a fixed blade that's already broken. In my opinion, folders are, compared to decent fixed blades, ugly, impractical, not ergonomic, uncomfortable, unreliable and the craziest of all, more expensive. Seeing how in this country carrying folding knives is just as illegal as carrying fixed blade knives, there's no reason for me to carry a folder when I could just as well be carrying a real knife. ;)

Now, of course, some people like folders, and have reasons, such as legal ones, to use them over fixed blades. I'm not one of those people, though. :)

Perhaps what I use my knives for doesn't test them severly enough to cause failures. Folders have always worked well for me, and I prefer the compact and (mostly) pocketable configuration both for convenience and safety.

Too bad about your restrictive knife laws, but I am surprised to learn that Finland has them. My impression has always been that Finns are a hardy, fiercely independent people who would never accept such a thing. Even Swiss Army Knives, Leatherman tools, etc.?

i install cable..cutting into walls, cutting cable, cutting anything i can find without wasting my time.. too much. here lately i've been using my byrd crow, not afraid to break it is why i use it so much.. if my new tops loner isnt too big feelin.. i'll probly use it a while.

1- A red alox SAK Pioneer
2- My baby, my precious, my large regular sebenza with polished blade and engraved initials on the back near the locking bar
I wish the order was the other way around but the truth is the sak gets pulled more often than my sebbie:grumpy:

It's not that good folders would quickly fail in the kind of use I put my knives to, although blade play and the like is quite likely to develop. It's more that I just don't feel like I can rely upon them. I like simple things, and a fixed blade is less complicated and therefore less likely to fail than a folder.

Yes, in effect it's illegal to carry, in public, anything with a knife blade, unless there is a reasonable cause (such as needing the knife in your profession, like carpentry, or because you're going hunting and need to skin some moose). The law isn't very strictly enforced, however, and a lot of people do carry knives even when they do not have the kind of reason for it the law requires. More than once I've had a police officer notice my knife, and instead of trying to confiscate it, ask me where they could buy such knives and how much it would cost. :D But still, it's law, and I personally do not accept it, and I'm certainly not the only Finn to do so. A lot can be said about the Finnish character, but currently it's unfortunately true that we're ruled by the extreme left, and I do not mean the traditional Scandinavian socialdemocratic left that is mostly only concerned about the well-being of their own people, but the rather obnoxious modern ultraleftist type that literally worships restrictions, not big but huge government and the idea that Finland (as well as any other western nation) is responsible for the entire world, while the rest of the world is responsible for nothing. Makes me sick to my stomach, I tell you. [/political rant off]

I switch pretty evenly between:

- Emerson Commander

- Benchmade Griptilian

- Kershaw Leek (i've been favoring this one lately as i just got it and love the Speedsafe assisted opening and quality for the price)

Hi btw, as i'm a noob.

The two I've been using most lately are a Spyderco Calypso Jr. and a Sonderklasse 6" chef's knife.

Generally at work (where knives are frowned upon) I carry either a Bradle Cutlery Alias II or one of my small Sebenzas. On the weekends if I'm out and about (outdoorsy stuff) I usually have my Spyderco Native III.

This is a tough one for me because I rotate my EDC a lot. Overall lately I would say my Stayglow Victorinox Explorer and my blue ZDP Delica.

Close runners up would be my Victo Cybertool 34, Fallkniven U2 and Boker Trance.

I also have several Case and Queen traditional folders, but I tend to carry and fidget with them more than I actually use them.

My most used knives are the ones on my multi-tools (LM charge ALX, Swisstool/Spirit). If it's not a multi-tool blade it is probably my Boker Subcom, BM 530, or Vic OHT being used.

My 2 most used though are the Charge ALX and my Vic OHT. The Charge is clipped to my rf Pocket and the OHT is loose in the rf pocket.

For the majority of my life, a Vic SAK was in my pocket. I went ape over Kershaws - and the KaBar Dozier folder. Now, usually a four year old Scallion in the watch pocket - or it or the KaBar in the rf pocket, and a Blur in the rr pocket - all without clips. That $22 KaBar has earned it's keep - the green Scallion, at $11 more, has as well. It has to be a big box - or thick rope - for that Blur to come out.

In the Office:
Kershaw Groove
BM 710
both of these fit nicely in my back pocket alongside my wallet.

After work and on the weekends:
Lately I can not put down my Kershaw JunkYard Dog II, what a great knife!
I rotate all the rest about equally,
BM Mini-Rukus
Spyderco Chinook III
CS Black Sable
Buck/Strider Tarani
Hossum Retribution
Byrd Cara Cara
:D :D :D

Took my Spydrco delica (PE) and endura (se) Salts, Buck Hartsook, leatherman charge, and Swiss Champ to the Carribean last week.

Used the Delica salt to gut and scale 7 snappers, slice (not cut) some cheese, and then, upon return to the USA, to prune (very small) limbs and other yard overgrowth. It was mighty dull by then.

I sharpened it with a cheap kitchen steel, stropped it on my favorite belt, and it is once more shaving hair.

PS- the scaling was terrific and I wondered who would need to use an actual fish scaler like on the SAK?
