Okay, Im kind of embarrassed to ask, but what type of model available from HI is close to this khurki pictured below:

residentevilextinctionm.jpg

The movie is set in the apocalypse and super-model main actor :) has to use the knife for everything including fighting......zombies, LOL.

What model or length do you think it is close to? I like how the handles continue the curve of the blade and the spine is kind of straight at the back...it doesnt look like its too heavy either.

Any comments are appreciated! (Because Id like to try to find one like this, I like how the handles are kind of long.)

Mtell. Those are KLO's (kukri like objects). They are close in shape to a WWII model probably the 18 inch size. However there is where the similarity ends. They are closer to the cheapo Indian manufactured ones than anything H.I. makes. Notice the slab blades of 1/4 inch thick stock. Though those movie ones were aluminum and not even steel.

I've seen some movie repros on the market but don't remember where (some catalog my brother had)

Due to its being a chiruwa style handle the closest from H.I. would be a CAK, M-43 or BDC or when available a Sgt. Khadka made CAK. But any of those would be heavier and far more functional.

Someone else was selling a kukri/machete as the movie knife as well.

The M43 is the only model I'm aware of that has a similarly curved handle - it really helps with the ergonomics and chopping ability. It's also full tang like in the movie... based on the height of the girl, I would also say 18 inches is a good call. Check out the Khukuri Dynamics page of the FAQ to get a better idea of what i mean.

That said, wildmike hit the nail on the head when he called the movie versions KLOs

The closest HI would be an 18" WWII.
The WWII I have has a Chiruwa style handle, so they do exist.

Thanks, youre right it would have to be like the jack of all trades model, "combination weapon and tool" from the WWII description.

Also I like the black blades (not mirror polished).
Ive seen some Deals of the Days with black blades when I set the pages results to go back 100days and read back a bit.

If I could find a chiruwa tang WWII model like yours I think that would be ideal for me. :)

Thanks for the info and comments.

Id certainly get a HI made Khurki what ever it is, I don't like getting cheap imitation stuff at all.

Can you please let me know what BCD means and I will look in that model.

Ive read the BoneCutters also have the full tangs (which taper) but I couldnt find their thickness or where they fit into the model lineup.

Thats a great link thanks very much for posting that.

I think they look more like the Yeti Hunter model than the WW2. Those have a point on the blade where the WW2's tip is rounded into a more blunt-ish shape.

Actually it is 'BDC', and it can refer to a Bura Dui Chira in regards 18inch models and also Baby Dui Chira in 10 and 12 inch versions of what is a dual fullered non traditional Chiruwa handled Khukuri. ;)

If we're going to get down to splitting hairs, there is no such animal as the equivalent to those. They are aluminum (for "hero" shots) and lexan (for action shots) KLOs designed to look cool being whipped around by a supermodel. As such they have features of several models rolled into one.

Sad thing is, they aren't even used to particularly good effect in the movie.
IMO pick the features you like the most, and buy the HI that is as close to that as possible. If you like the handles, then definitely they are closest to an M43. If you like the blade shape, the shape is decidedly not that of an M43, so then anything from the Ang Khola, to the Yeti hunter to the WWII, since that's kind of an amalgamation of several, will do.

The blade looks to me a bit like a cross between a British Army and a Gelbu Special. The handle seems to be a completely non-traditional design though.

You could e-mail Yangdu and ask how much it would cost to have a khukuri custom made to your specs. One of the kamis once made a "movie-inspired" khuk on his own after seeing The Mummy or something, so it's not like it's that goofy of a request.

One of the best ways to be sure you get what you want is to cut out a life-sized replica of your design from cardboard or posterboard or something, and send that to Yangdu. You can also specify a weight, but be realistic. 28-32 ounces is probably the lower limit for an 18", broad-bladed khukuri.

Anybody but me see the problem with this thread?

I mean, here you have Milla Jovovich in garters and stockings in the apocalypse, and you want to know how to get the knife??
:D

My firstmost instinct was that it looked like those Service no.1 models I see from Atlanta Cutlery. I think the closest blade shape to that is the yeti hunter model. But the handle flows a little more like an M-43 than a Service no. 1.

Of course, if you found a good profile shot of the knife, I bet the kamis could duplicate it.

And I think it makes sense to notice the knives before a hot chick in stockings. I mean, women in lingerie are all over the internet. But good khukris...

I already have the garters and stockings.....I need the knife to complete the set...

wait, what??????? :D

It's hard to find a good clear pic of those...I have no idea what would be closest, I guess the Yeti hunter is probably the best ..

and the seem to have a number of different handles too...the pic above shows no rivets (aka. hidden tang) while the first pic clearly shows rivets and a full tang..

Never saw the movie and it took me a minute to figure out if this was a woman or young man from the first pic. Anorexic little thing! I am pretty out of the main stream....and like it that way!
