What type of HI Khurki is close to this one (pic from Resident Evil)

The men at m4040.com and at survivalprimer.com are both off their rockers, IMHO, and I get tired of being directed to their sites every time I do a kukri-related search.
The SurvivalPrimer guy really gets my goat: he posts an entire page devoted to how he mutilates his khukuris for "religious" reasons! I hope he never gets to ruin an HI that way......

<end of rant>

really off topic: had never seen survivalprimer before so I went there...OK this Guy ( I can think of alot of other things to call him) has the gall to say "I never look to buy from Himalayan Imports, myself. The site bothers me, and the prices are too high." and to suggest that the blades are cursed and inhabited by demons, but still has the HI safety thread on his website pictures and all....:grumpy: is this guy nuts??

:grumpy: is this guy nuts??

Ordinarily I would say "Yes, he is" but whatever peers he has in his particular branch of the religion are probably partly responsible for the spritual wariness. Would be too easy for me as an atheist/agnostic/unconvinced to dismiss such concerns as patently silly, but in the same stroke I'd be invalidating the kamis reasons for putting the cho/kaudi and other disctintive features on khukuris in the first place!

Now, as a FORMER believer, I might suggest owning inanimate objects from another faith does not equate putting other gods before your own.

He's certainly not showing good web ethics, is he?
But then, I don't believe that throwing your religious beliefs into someone's face is appropriate on a business or informational site in the first place, unless the site happens to be ABOUT them. It's one thing for HI's site to shed some light on why the khukuri is made the way it is, because that's just courtesy. But they don't try to require belief; they tell the story objectively. And that's the critical difference.

It's a long passage, so I won't quote it, but he's taking his views from 1 Corinthians 10:14-33.

Problem is, the context of the passage is often lost by those trying to apply it. It is a warning to not practice heathen religions, nor partake in their ceremonies. In other words, it would be wrong for a Christian to give honor to Shiva, or whomever because they have a kukri, and it would certainly be wrong to take part in the sacrificial rite over the kukris at the shop.

However, mere ownership would not be forbidden, nor do demons inhabit inanimate objects.

But you see a lot of this mythologising of the bible in pentecostal/charismatic churches, and, to be blunt, they give the rest of us a bad name.

Wow. From my experience, you can find God anywhere anytime, if you look inside. Different religions are just different cultural contexts in which to find God. All the rest is just fear and ignorance IMHO.

WOW. That guy is MESSED UP.

I love how some people treat religion as a method to stereotype and outcast those who are different, instead of a path to greater understanding and enlightenment.

What about all the instances in the bible where animals were sacrificed for God?

I'm not religious, so if I'm not remembering Sunday school correctly, please be gentle.

Technically, I believe that those people were Jewish. I don't remember any instances of "Christian" sacrifice in the Bible.

Anything else I might say on the subject would probably get me in trouble so... I won't.

Yep, animal sacrifices are from the Old Law, not the New Law.

If someone has a conscience problem with it, then they shouldn't buy a kukri.

But there's no prohibition on buying one as such.

We all eat bagel. So I see no problem to own a Khukuri.
I remember God told Peter to kill and eat what Peter thought were unclean. Acts 10:9-17
Obviously we don't really know what to condemn or approve for most of the time we are just serving ourselves.

OK..I'm sorry I didn't mean to start a religious discussion (I couldn't care less about his religious beliefs) I just thought it was incredibly tacky that he would condemn HI's products and basically call them the tools of the Devil but still have the balls to blatantly use information from HI and other Nepalese Kurkri makers on his self promoting site. Sorry to Hijack the thread...

Well, there was said to be one incident of self-sacrifice, if you want to split hairs.....;)

"Oy!"

Hey, that chic is me! Thanks for the compliment.

Mtell1,

As for what knife to choose, I would go with what Yangdu suggests, the Yeti. It's pretty close and what you are really going for is the whole feeling and impression you give, not an exact replica. When you have got two big, bad ass khuks at your side, people are going to get it.

Nice to see more women in to knives!

What kuk are you holding in the pic?

Thanks
