I got my licence in the last half of the 70s, Hotel California and Blinded by the light were blasting through the speakers of a 68 Dodge Coronet 500 Convertible. 1968 was a long time ago. Who remembers? Oh yeah. The internet remembers. http://www.bobborst.com/popculture/top-100-songs-of-the-year/?year=1968
1967 for me....Here's the Billboard "end of year" hits: http://www.billboard.com/archive/charts/1967/hot-100 I remember all of these getting heavy airplay. My first car, a 1965 VW, had an AM radio.... The only way you could get FM in your car was an add-on unit from Radio Shack.
...and there weren't that many FM stations either. I put a Radio Shack reverb in my '67 Stang fastback.
I had Elvis Costello's Armed Forces in the cassette deck that day. I had zero problems with the drive test and I aced the written test. Then I locked the keys in the car.
I can't remember anymore, but I do remember playing a lot of Doors, Bowie, and when I wanted to piss off people I'd crank up some Black Sabbath. Cassettes were my favorite, as I hated that pause when 8 tracks would switch tracks and they often self destructed.
I got my license in 77. I grew up on the old country music, and there was a small AM station that had been around for years that I listened to. Once I got a cassette deck, it was Merle, Patsy and other old country greats. The first cassette I bought that wasn't country was Eric Clapton. I damn near wore out the tape listening to " Cocaine " over and over. Not sure why because I didn't even do the crap
There were 8-tracks galore in 77, I still can't listen to certain CDs without expecting the obligatory kerchunk sound in the middle of certain songs.
I never did the 8-track program. They were a big deal at the time though. I listened to the factory AM radio in my Chevelle until I had enough money to put in an AM/FM/Cassette. It wasn't a huge deal though because the car was REALLY loud
The chrome book doesn't have auto correct, just spell check so I have to police myself. Sometimes I miss.
My first car was a 72 Nova with an 8 track playing The Eagles. High beam switch in the floor of course . Man, that was so long ago. Where did the time go? nthego:
