What Was the First GOOD FOLDER You Got?

My first good folder was a Smith & Wesson Special Ops, it was good until I came across this forum and I found out the true meaning of GOOD steel. Then the "real" GOOD stuff I got after is a Benchmade 690.

Mine was a Benchmade Ares in ATS-34 I bought 7 years ago for $49 at a local knifeshop that has since gone out of business. Luckily a new acquaintance had educated me about quality knives a few weeks prior, and I was very impressed by his collection of BM's. I remember the store had some nice Buck's but other than that mostly chinese junk. I had my choice between the Ares and a Cold Steel Voyager. The choice wes easy.:D I discovered this forum about 3 years later and now I am a knifeaholic. I recently passed the Ares down to my 10 year old nephew.

1st Semi - Gerber EZ Out in 440? (lost it)
2nd Good - BM Mini-Pika in ATS-34 (convined my dad to buy it for me in HS)
3rd Really Good - Small Sebbie WOOHOO... suppose to be mailed tomorrow!

1st OK = CRKT M16-13D
2nd Good = Kershaw Blur
3rd Really Good = Kershaw Lahar and JYDII (i bought them on the same day)

I think my first lockback was a cheap $.99 from a toyota dealership when I was in 6th grade I think, eventually I got a CRKT M16-13M for chistmas when I was 12-13, and eventually bought a buck another M16-13Z a M16-13T BM 710 and finally a BM 940.

My first food folder was an Emerson CQC7 Mini-A that I found at a local gun shop after my old Gerber (like 20 years old) was trashed by a friend. I carried that for several months until I tired of his left-hand blade grind (If you're a right-hander, just try to slice away from you with an Emerson!).

I picked up a couple of inexpensive Benchmades and Gerbers but wasn't happy with the constant adjustment of the pivot joint. So, after reading a bit on this forum I ended up with a small Sebenza from CRK. I think I've found my last EDC!

The first knife that I bought that was above CRKT quality was a Ka Bar Dozier Black Thorn. Before that was a CRKT Mirage and a Apache. I should have kept the Apache. Before those the best on I had was a Case Sodbuster. The best knife I currently own is a Kershaw Blur with S30v blade.

First was a Buck 110 back in the Navy, almost part of the uniform. Then a Balisong Wee-Hawk from the Benchmade folks before they started calling themselves Benchmade. Back then there were located in LA. They changed their company name about the time they moved up here to Oregon a few years later. I also got an Al Mar Eagle Talon with cocobolo about the same time.

Do SAK's count?

My first good folder was a Swiss Champ. I bought it just because it was 'cool' (younger days). I carried it for years and it still rides as part of my EDC.

My next ' good knife' purchase was a Benchmade Emerson 975 for (what I saw as too much, back then) $88.00 :)

First "good" folder I ever got was a Schrade 125OT folding hunter, the single bladed liner lock version. Lost it after five years of ownership, left it under the hood of my car after cutting a new radiator hose to fit and going for a test drive. :(

Ritter version of the BM Griptilian in S30V.

It took me two months to talk myself into it.

It has been an excellent EDC ... with no (and I mean NO) edge chipping.

Haven't looked back since.

I had many but it wasn't until I got my first Buck 501 Esquire with the Micarta insert handle scales that I was happy. I carried one of those for many years. Lost the first one rock climbing in Carbondale Illinois and got another just like it. Lost that one somehow when my son rolled my 4Runner and it must have been one of several things that flew out of the sun roof which was wide opened. It had been kept in my center console until that accident when I never saw it again. I have another now just like it that I snagged on ebay because I've always loved that 440C model from called the Esquire Micarta until they changed it and the handle material.

Had it not been for Sal Glesser inventing the pocket clip and making one hand opening lockbacks I'd probably still be carrying that knife instead.

two come to mind.

'88, dad gave me a Wenger 'fisherman' SAK when i went away to college. lost it through a hole in my jacket pocket. :(

'95, traded my paintball gun for a MT Socom. my first high end knife.

My first good folder was a Buck Trapper in about 1970. I still have a couple of Gerbers from back when Pete was at the helm. The first knife I paid over $75 for was an Al Mar Falcon, flat ground with swedge tip (before the Talon grind) with hardwood scales and long bolsters. I'm still mad at whoever broke into my house and stole that one. It was by no means the only one, but it was the one I miss the most.

My first good folder was a cheap piece of cr*p, a Trim Trio, I think they were 49 cents. Why was it good? Because it showed me how handy a pocket knife was.
My first quality folder was a Puma 4-star lockback.
