what was the first knife you feel in love with?

The Loveless/Johnson subhilt "big bear" that appears on the cover of "How to Make Knives"

Many times i would wake up still feeling the impressions from the stag handle on my hand :D

Easy. It was the Official Case Boy Scout Camp Knife that my dad bought for me when I was about 13 years old, to go along with the rest of my Boy Scout uniform.:).

The first knife I fell in love with and thought I couldn't live without was the Queen Cutlery Slimline Trapper model #24.

Way back when I was 14 or 15 I was already interested i knives, but my first serious affair was with a S&W handmade bowie, designed by Blackie Collins. I had a hard time choosing between the bowie and a Puma Whitehunter, but fortunately chose the S&W since that line went out of prodution soon after. I also managed to buy the Outdoorsman and Skinner while they were still available. I still have that bowie and it is a fine piece indeed. So I guess that was the knife that really started it all.

When I turned 16 back in 1975, my best friend bought me a Buck Special bowie, the one with the 6" blade. My friend got tired of seeing me go into that store and drool over that knife. I still have that knife, although its been through the ringer a few times. I just recently sent it into Buck to be refinished and to have them put the Edge 2000 on it. Now, its scary sharp. Sharper than its ever been. I will probably have that one until I die, when my Son will get it.

The first knife that I fell in love wasn't one of mine, it was my older brother's Buck Lite. Whenever we were camping, it was his constant companion. It seemed as if that knife could do anything. 10 years later, he still has it and still uses it for everything. Everytime, I try to convince him to retire it, he refuses. He wouldn't even trade it for a BM AFCK!
I'll keep trying though,
Matt

Although I have been "into" knives for many years, a few years ago, I walked into a local B&M dealer looking for a Gerber Covert folder. The dealer was out of stock, but he showed me a BM 970 (CQC7). He carried one himself and sung the praises of this knife.

I bought it and have never looked back since. Also, IMHO, it was one of BM's best efforts.

The rest is history.

I can't remember whether my first (unrequited) love was the Robert Parrish Survivor or a Benchmade custom BaliSong with the Imada Hi Hollow blade and desert ironwood inlays (it was in the catalogue).

My first true love was the Spyderco Terzuola, an early one with Al scales. I've used this knife so much over the past ten years that the blade now looks upswept (from repeated sharpening) as opposed to the modified sheepsfoot profile it had when new. It saw solid service for 8 of the ten years without rest or replacement and is still as solid as ever and it still has a better feel in my hand than anything I have. For years I compared it to knives I wanted to buy and would end up not buying them.

I think a Wenger might usurp it in the future, but the Terzoula will always be my first love. :)

My first love was the Buck 110. Remember being in junior high, and wanting one so bad. My parents stuck by their decision that I had to save my pathetic allowance for the entire price. Took what seems to be an eternity till I could afford it.

Would have to be the BM Stryker in M2 I bought right after they came out. Prior to that, I only bought knives that I REALLY NEEDED. Still have that Stryker! :p

As I stated in my above post,

I can now say the first knife I genuinely fell in love with is the Emerson CQC7.
I look forward to a whole lot further lovin' :)

A "Camp King" pocket knife.

Black plastic scales, utility blade, pen blade, awl, can opener, and a spoon.

My Dad gave it to me when I was eight and it was my constant companion until I finally managed to cut myself with it. (blade closed on my fingers) and it mysteriously disappeared from my dresser during the night. I suspect my mother lost it after that, but I'd give up any three knives in my collection to have that one back again.
