What was the last POSITIVE remark someone had about your blade?

When around friends and family if anyone needs a sharp knife they ask where is Jim? When I hand them a knife they handle it as if it were TNT.

So true so true! Birthday parties, family get togethers, helping a buddy in his yard or with moving, whatever. It's a compliment that when people need one they always say..Jon, I know YOU have a knife, and then I get to show off whatever my latest "pocket prize" happens to be.:D

My dad was using one of my cheap Farberware santokus on some tomatoes. On the first slice, he looked at me and said, "Dang, this knife is sharp!"

I just looked at him and said, "Well, that is the idea." My family's gotten used to using dull knives, I guess.

I haven't broken down to carrying a loaner, but the picture of the stockman and how borrowers may appreciate it, and not abuse it, fits well.

A lot of the public appreciates nice small knives, and a well appointed slipjoint might be the best way to "publicly" carry.

I showed my new BRKT Northstar to my boss a couple of weeks ago. He said "Nice, great attention to detai.....wow this thing is sharp!"

A work associate saw my Alaskan Guide Buck 110 and commented "Now that's a good looking knife. That wood is beautiful".

Several years ago one of my co-workers discovered that I kept a SchradeUSA melon sampler knife in my desk, for the orange/apple/whatever I ate every day. She loved it, and borrowed it several times a week. When I left that job she asked, "who am I gonna borrow a knife from?" She finally ended up buying something similar to it.

Fun thread!

We were setting up at a tradeshow last month and my boss borrowed my Boker Copperliner (grey G-10 scales).

He cut the crap out of his thumb and said, "Nice knife; sharp, too," as he returned it (still open) to me.

:D

I sold everyone I work with a small Schrade knife and told them I would sharpen them for free. My greatest praise was when one of my aides came to me with 12 aluminum packets of A&D ointment in his hand.I cut the ends off all 12 packets cleanly with one swipe of my grey handled PE Spyderco Goddard.I became the acknowledged knife god at work. I'm also the flashlight god as well.

One of the first that I really remember vividly was using some "tactical" folder to open a box while at my girlfriend's house and her mom saying something along the lines of "I guess we don't have to worry about her being safe with you"

"Wow, can I see that?"

My brother in law asked when I pulled out my Endura ZDP-189 full serrated.

I handed it to him, knowing he'd treat it with care.

"Nice..."

I was cutting the side of a 3ft high cardboad box at work to get a peice of equipment out. Me SE Delica 4 sliced it open like it was butter--my co worker just said "wow my knife won't do that, that thing is sharp" to which I replied "Spyderco- invest in one!"

My latest were both on my beloved Kershaw Groove. I had just sharpened (touch-up would also be accurate) it that day, and, since it had been shaving sharp out of the box, i asked if anyone would like to put it to the test. First it was complimented on its looks, then a surprised "WOW:eek:" as it began clipping hairs off his face. That, to me, is the greatest compliment one can receive about a knife. :D

the last POSITIVE remark someone had about your blade?

That was when they returned my knife and said "Thank you for letting me Borrow it".

Got some great reactions to my Yojimbo and CF Caly 3 from friends recently.

I loaned my Kershaw Blur S30V to a friend to open a box. When the blade went through like a light-saber, he sucked in his breath and asked: "Good Lord, what did you do to that thing?":D:D

I had convexed it and sharpened to hair popping, and polished to .5 micron on leather strops. :):)

I have a newer one. A friend was over a couple days ago and saw my new Mora knives. He said " I can't believe that you can buy a knife like this for under 10.00." He had me order four Carbon Clippers for him. Of course since there would be shipping anyway, I order three more for me.

Robert Dark recently visited me and I took him home to handle some of my customs, he said. " I just don't know how those guys do it." He was handling some of WT Fullers', Dick Dorough and Harvey McBurnettes' work as well as some recent Todd Davisons and Ray and Jeff Cover, He really made me feel good about my collection. When a knife maker praises your collection, it just makes your day.

My new Queen Med. Stockman in Bird's Eye Maple just came back from Mike Stewart's convexing job.

My wife saw it, picked it up, said, "This is beautiful! And I like these different shaped blades! Can I have it for my new camping knife?"

Thus showing that sometimes, even good comments about blades can turn out bad! :(

My Mnandi has garnered a number of "wow" comments, especially when I use it at work for trimming cable ties or almost anything more than opening a box. They're all surprised something so small is so capable. Of course, most of the knives in the office are as dull as butter knives.
