What was your crummiest carry gun?

Worst gun I had the misfortune to own was a Sterling 380 auto. It jammed randomly regardless of the ammo I put through it. In the day, I had bought it from Carter Country in Houston and they let me swap it on a different gun. What a POS.

though it wasnt crummy my star PD wasnt great either, wayyyy too sensitive with ammo for one, reliability wasnt the best either, never regretted getting a SIG P220 FWIW.

Man, I loved my Star PD! I took it to a 1911 guy who throated and polished the ramp to a mirror finish.I could cycle empty .45 casings thru it with ease. as I remember,it fit in either officer or commander holsters...been thirty years ago. I was a consulate liason in the Netherlands and I remember alot of plainclothes Dutch cops carried them in 9mm.By the time I left there most were sporting walthers, which was weird cuz the Dutch really hated the Germans. Time heals alot wounds I guess.

I wont say what my crummiest carry was cuz it would upset some great posters here who love their Glocks. My cheapest was a S&W 442, while it was tough to hit anything with it it was a great gun.Thank God no agency ever made me qualify with it.

I would get pilloried for this in some quarters, but to date the most unreliable, problematic handgun I have ever tried to use as a carry gun is a SIG GSR. It is back at SIG for the third time. SIG has agreed to replace it and the replacement should be here this week. i am hoping for great results out of this new gun, similar to what others report for the GSR's.

On the plus side, it really is a tank of a 1911, and SIG customer service has been great to work with.

A Llama 1911 .45 that I bought in a pawn shop in Charleston S.C. for $150.00 when I was stationed there around 1986. It actually wasn't that bad, as it never failed to function. Just couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with it! Sold it when I got transferred.

I owned one of those C.O.P. .357 derringers for quite a few years. It would occasionally tear open the web of my hand from recoil if I wasn't careful. Sold it for a huge profit. Like Cougar said, it was big but had to be to shoot those full load .357's. I wish I still had it.

Funny because I still have a Jennings .22 and it shoots great and has never misfired or jammed. A friend had one and had the same results as me. I know they're cheap and everyone complained about them misfiring or jamming but the two examples that I've had experience with were/are reliable.

The worst pistol I ever had in my possession, believe it or not, was a Berretta 21. Fantastic build quality but would misfire or jam almost every other pull of the trigger. I sent it back to Beretta and they said it was the magazine and sent me a new magazine but it still jammed. I still have a Beretta Minx in .22 short and it'll shoot all day without a hiccup and is accurate as hell for such a tiny pistol.

I carried a SOLID stainless C.O.P. 4-shot .357 magnum for awhile. While it wasn't a "bad" gun, the trigger-pull was VERY long and VERY heavy, and the short grip was a bear to hold onto when firing full-power loads.

My lawyer has one of those that was a gift from his parents. He doesn't carry that one, but does keep it close at hand. It is bulky, and your right, the trigger is longer than driving from Texas to Chicago.

The worst one I carried for a very short period was a S&W Sigma in .357 SIG. It sucked big time, and I swapped it in on a Glock 21. This was about seven or eight years ago. The worst one that I own now is a Llama Mini Max .45. Bought it for $100 bucks from a friend. Shot it about six or seven times, and stuck it in the safe.

I had a .45acp Star firestar. I was breaking clay pigeons at 50 ft on my hind legs with a .40 at a gun show so I thought I would like the .45 even better. It was a great gun but it would keyhole at anything past 10 feet. It would have made a heck of a wound track if it ever hit anything but it would group about 8 " at 7 yards. Sent it back to Star and got a new barrell but it wasn't much of an improvement. Eventually the gun got stolen and the only compensation I could derive from the situation was that the guy that stole it wasn't going to be able to hit the broad side of a barn with it.

Ha ha, there's this gun shop here that seems to specialize in selling crap guns to the gangstas. Big sign out front sez "9mm AUTOMATICS w/2 CLIPS OF AMMO FOR $150 -- NO PERMIT NEEDED!" They are Lorcins. Sort of like buying a Glock knockoff from the Dollar Store.
I know the place. Pieces of shit. Both the dealer & the guns.:jerkit:

My worst was a Hialeah Derringer Works .38. 20+ yrs ago. Truly dangerous firearm. The tolerances/gaps were so bad it burned the hell out of your hand to fire it. I honestly believe that the round would turn 45 degrees while still in the barrel. A 10 yard group could be covered w/ a bedspread. Worthless for anything other than a true "belly gun". Couldn't wait to get rid of it.

Raven Arms .25 auto. Jam every other shot. Piece of crap. Worst good weapon for CC, Beretta 92. To big and heavy.

Good folks at Carter Country. Sometimes a little pricey, but honest folks.

When I was 16 swapped ans old EQ for a raven .25. Looking back it was probably stolen, The guy I traded with was later arrested for breaking into cars. I kept in my glove box for about a month (though I never bought any ammo for it), then sold it for $20.00.

The second piece of crap that I actually carried loaded was a taurus millenia .40. It fired everytime, but the first shot would go over the target, second would hit the dirt, and heaven knows where that third one went. A police officer kindly took it off my hands before I could get myself killed with it, live and learn.

Well just last week my sister inlaw gave me two guns that had belonged to my brother who died last August. One was a Winchester 250 22 rifle and the other was a RG14 22 that my brother had inherited from my our dad. The RG is a piece of of crap but it still means the world to me. I will own to my dying day,

The worst looking gun I ever owned and carried was break-top Hopkins & Allen Forehand Model 1901 .32cal 5-shot Auto-Ejector revolver. It was a rusty bucket of bolts but it shot just fine. The cylinder spring went on it and I never fired it since.

On the rossi the ejector rod come spinning lose and eventually diables the gun by preventing cylinder from rotating correctly.
Taurus. Tried several. Mostly junk. Lack of accuracy. Lock up poor. Trigger pull needs work. Just awful guns. they look great. Cool claibers, small, etc but junk. Even had their high end raging bull, not real satisfying but at least it worked and shot somewhat straight.
The king of my garbage heap was a Star semi-auto in .45 acp. Never ever did shoot through a full clip without a couple of jams.
I stay with beretta, glock, sig, kimber - the high end name brands. Like S&W for revolvers best.

When I was in high school I bought a Charter Arms AR-7 that I carried in the trunk of my car for years. It was in my emergency bag for when TSHTF. It was terrible. Not very accurate and after about 200 rounds thru it the sear wore out. After that you would always get at least 2 rounds cracking for every trigger pull. Sometimes it would just go full auto for the whole magazine. It made me careful about staying on target when I pulled the trigger.

My first double action auto that I bought was the Daewoo DP-51. I carried it for about a year in one of the fanny pack holsters. It never jammed of failed to function in any way, but the accuracy was just awful. 15 feet and you could occasionally hit a paper plate. When I sold it, I told the guy exactly why I was selling it. He didn't care, he worked in a bad area and just wanted something handy in the car in case of a car jacking. I used the money and a bit extra to buy a S&W 5906. One of the sweetest shooting handguns I've ever had.

I've been thinking about this for a few days and thought it might be a fun thread. See what you think.

So, tell us, what were your cheapest, junkiest, or crummiest guns that you carried and used?

In the '60's you could buy a gun & a loaf of bread at the same general store all along US 301 South of Richmond. I bought quality pistols for lady friends & they were great.

I was traveling 3 states & a lot of my warehouse customers were in the ghetto. Okay, I bought a "something" ,22 with a 6" barrel to carry in those areas. Pulled it twice but it's appearance cancelled the threat.

Son was coming of age & wanted to fire it. He did & I wound up with shavings in my left cheek. Dayum thing was w a a y out of alignment !

Friend sold it for me & I wound up with all my $$$ & I made 5 cents to boot !

My favorite that's on my nightstand is a U S .45 revolver dating back to WW I.

Hi Gene. Long time, no chat. I had a Beretta Minx for awhile as well and had the same experience. Mine never jammed and was unbelievably accurate right out of the box. I thought I just lucked into an accurate one given the fixed sites, etc, but it's good to hear you had the same experience. Took a beating when I sold it though. I had all the leather for it including the New Orleans wallet holster. Wish I had kept it.

Hi Razz! Good to hear from you and how you been?

Don't mean to get off track here but I love my tiny Minx! It's one I'll never get rid of. Stoked with HPs, it's my pocket ground squirrel cannon. :) Unbelievably accurate out to 10 yards. A quality piece for sure.

Wish you still had some of that Minx leather. I'd buy it from you. I have a custom Kydex neck sheath for it but that's it. I'm still looking for the 4" drop-in barrel for it. Beretta actually made some.
