What was your crummiest carry gun?

Star PD! Loved the size and weight, but if you held a steady aim on the neck of a sillouette target at 15 yards, it would group like a match gun -- right in the crotch!

When I became a Game Warden in 1973, the State of California, on looking out for the best interests of their peace officers, issued us, CHP and State Police a Dan Wesson .357 mag.

It had a 2 hand hold double action pull, went bang every other time I tried to pull the trigger, had a problem with the barrel shroud falling off in the holster, and could hit the X ring when thrown overhand from 7 yards.

The State tried to work with Dan Wesson Arms over it. DWA finally came out with a fix for the reliablity and trigger pull issues, and was going to charge us to convert each revolver to reliable. Instead they got the guns back and a matching lawsuit. I got a new Colt Trooper.

I carried a Colt Python during that time because I darned sure wasn't carrying the DWA POS.

I understand that DWA later made a fairly nice gun. I never saw one.

Yeah Dan Wessons were a bear to fire, They sure were pretty though. Been awhile since I owned one (Late 70's)but as I remember the triggers were stiff.

On a side note, visited your knife website, That Damascus Folder is awesome looking. For years I would never spend more then 250 bucks on a knife, now finally spending 350 bucks..only a matter of time before I become a customer of you Custom Knife guys($500+).

I bought a Jennings .25 many years ago, back when I was a LEO and could buy without a waiting period. I kept it in my briefcase as a last resort. Glad it never resorted to using it. ... Truly my favorite POS $45 retail price handgun. :barf:

Aw, come on now, tell the truth. That was your "throw down gun." I know how that works. :D

And for the people who say they would never carry a crappy old gun or they would never own a cheap gun because their life is worth more than that, I guess they've never been young and poor and still wanted a gun.

My first carry gun was a Ruger P90. Bought it for $175 bucks from a guy in my unit. Not really a crummy gun, but large and bulky. It did go bang whenever I pulled the trigger tho. A few weeks after that I bought a Kimber Classic and the gun sickness went from there. For me now a days, Glocks get the nod for "cheap" guns. I never could convince myself to buy any of the Davis/Lorcin/HiPoints etc.

i would think it woulda been a bear to qualify with a dan wesson due to the way the cylinder release is positioned, i was playing around with one a long time ago and thats what i thought anyway.

point being it would be difficult to reload fast vs a S&W, colt or ruger.

I've had a few Dan Wessons through the years (for me, it was like a poor-man's Colt Python :D), and as a "lefty", I really liked the cylinder release, as I'd just reach under the frame/crane with my rt index finger as I cradled the gun in my rt hand, and work the release. Very quick and easy for me.
