I recently ordered an American Kami Colubris mid-tech. I am very excited and this will be my first knife that is more than $200. What was your first "expensive knife"?

My first was a Willumsen "Perock" followed by a Galyean Pro-Tech "Cross Bones".

Great thread.

My first midtech was a Les George VECP, and I still have it as my user.

My first custom? Will Zermeno Pointman which sort of left a bad taste in my mouth. The F&F sucked, off centered, and had IKBS but was as smooth as sandpaper :-/.

My first expensive knife was a ZT0301. First custom/midtech if you consider it one was a Grayman Dua.

My first expensive knife (a gift from my grandfather) was a custom lockback made by Gary Mulkey and it spawned an epidemic.
Busse fixed blades came next.
Followed by my CRK Lg Micarta Insingo and a few TAD custom slipjoints.
Production folders from Benchmade, Spyderco, Kershaw, etc. filled the gaps in between custom/midtech purchases, but they were by no means inexpensive because of their "sprint run + LE" and super steel characteristics.

My first mid-tech knife was a small Sebenza Insingo and my first custom folder was a Darrel Ralph Trigger. Now I'm up to 7 midtechs/customs/high-end productions- they are VERY addicting.

My first was a Strider EB-T Rouge Warrior and that knife i will never ever sell, its a really nice piece of steel :)

My first was also a Colubris mid-tech by American Kami, i'm sure it won't be my last from DJ. Im looking at one of his tomahawks now.
what color did you get?

My first really expensive knife was a Benchmade 51-1101.
My first mid-tech was a CRK Large Sebenza 21.
My first custom was a Curtiss Nano Linerlock.

Pohan Leu/Leu Custom

I custom ordered a Mini tanto C, a curved back traditonal tanto point [not the squared american tanto], with resin impregnated cord traditonal style wrap and green rayskin [with menuki]. I carry it IWB on a piece of 550 paracord. I've heard this referred to as "static line carry".

I carry it daily quite often, and I carried it as my only blade through the mojave desert on a 5 day walking trip. It's a small knife, but AMAZINGLY strong, and it has AMAZING edge retention. With a little common sense, its capable of doing damn near anything.

It was prety harsh terrain, so sometimes doing things like firestarting were interesting, but once I wrapped my headaround it, things clicked and I realized I was no worse off with this than a bigger knife, nad MAN was this knife tough. Amazingly, it was still "cut phone book paper" sharp when I got back home!!! Truly, one of the bets knives I own, and I can't thank Po enough for making this for me!

First custom I bought recently. Dalibor Sirius Ti Framelock.

I've had lots of expensive knives before that. Including a couple of limited edition AFCK's that were almost $300 each

My first expensive knife, so I thought was the kershaw jyd2 cb 80 bucks was a lot to me .
Then I thought I was crazy when I spend 150 on a mike snody custom fixed blade.
Then I saw the ZT0560 and per-ordered it and paid 260.
Then I had to check out a CR large sebenza 410...

Haha the dollars seem less significant over time

Howard Clark L6 Katana and tanto, got them around '97. Don't have the tanto anymore though, gave it to my sister and brother-in-law when they got married.
