What was your first GEC

All of us have jumped into GEC at various points in time and all of our collections have evolved. I thought it would be interesting to share what our first GEC was, and if you still have it.

Mine was a 15A214STL boys knife in ebony wood and yes I still have it and use it. My friend introduced me to GEC while I was stationed in St. Louis, MO with his beer scout. I was too late to get one myself, so I picked up this 15 as a “hold me over” knife in 2015 to check out GEC and wait for the next beer scout run. Considering the market today I am amazed I was able to walk into GP Knives on a random Saturday and pick between the ebony or jigged bone in addition to other models. What was meant to be a beginner GEC turned out to be an all time favorite knife in my collection, modern folders included.image.jpg

92 in green micarta for me. I enjoyed it so much that almost all I’ve bought since then have been slipjoints, with a few exceptions. I managed to chase down a sawcut blue Ocoee Jack early into my small collection, it’s still my favorite of the bunch.

Birthday present to myself some years ago. That said, the current 38 whittler with the two small blades is a better package even if it might not look quite as cool.

I left my oft carried and well loved SAK adventurer in a security checkpoint at the emergency room in Greenville SC a few years ago. Nicest people ever in that place, we were traveling and had a mishap.
They let us take our American bulldog - all 100lbs of her - into emergency and then to the room so she didn’t have to sit in the car!
Accidentally leaving that knife set me looking for something different. I found the GEC 86 and I remembered all the knives I liked as a kid. I still dig it!!

I originally passed on the 86’s because of their size. Very happy to have fixed that mistake. I love the size, the natural micarta and the wrench shield. I am a machinery technician so I find it fitting for what I do for a living.

That’s a great first and the color is great. I didn’t have any northwoods until the last couple of months. They were always so hard to get. I’m still on the fence in the new 38’s, but I can’t pinpoint why.

The green micarta 92 was my first GEC as well. Didn't take long for me to realize that it wasn't for me, especially when I got my hands on a 93 soon after. The 93 has come to be my favorite pattern with the recent 74 mustang a close second.
