What was your first Kershaw knife?

I just got my first Kershaw today. It's a Groove. I've always EDC'd a Spyderco Endura and wanted to try something different. I don't buy many knives but this won't be my last Kershaw.

My first Kershaw edc was a 1660cb.

I would have to say that my favorite now is the Mini Cyclone.
I like the bland, handle, and the clip.
I like the way it feels in my hand when it opens.
I use it every day now.

I think it has been at least 6 or 7 years, but IIRC my 1st Kershaw was a 1580ST Boa. I got a Scallion around the same time but it has been MIA for a year or two now. My 5-6 year old Chive sees use nearly every day as well. My newest one, a 1660 Leek, just came last week and I love it. I'm looking forward to picking up some of the different Leeks as money and time allows.

So I am hopefully not a madman (not expensive knives but a lot for less than 1 week of looking and getting). I got a Cyclone and Storm II in the mail yesterday. Since then I have purchased 2 more Cyclones (likely for gifts since they are disappearing, I see) a composite JYD II and just now a Groove off of the 'bay. I like the speedsafe, but the ability to turn it off for folks that would get all scared and stuff is very useful in my environment. The Storm II has a bit of a wicked recurve by some standards, but that recurve is why I bought it. The price was better than a blur and has most of what I wanted in it (sandvik steel, recurve).

This is the most knife purchasing I have ever done in one sitting. I have a 5 stone Lansky that I have used many times, but might have to get that Spyderco sharpening system to better handle the recurve. The knives both came amazingly sharp.

My previous EDC's have been a Cold Steel Recon 1 clip point with the paint polished off, after it got scratched up, with a cordless drill mounted brass brush and a little slide lock CRKT (model forgotten) with the blade that comes out at an angle from the top of the handle rather than flipping. I carried both of these together for a couple years now.

I know my collection isn't all ZT's and other expensive and nice stuff, but they work quite well.

MrFoo...You've been here since 2004 and this is your FIRST post?:eek:

Congratulations! And Welcome!

And you've got some great knives, too!

Welcome to Bladeforums! At last .. :D

That CRKT sounds like the Rollock.

Okay. So the Groove is extremely sweet. Much smoother than even the disabled speedsafe cyclone. It feels heavier than that one too. Kinda funny actually. I ordered 3 knives, then found out that I lost a job, via email, no less. Lame, but sweet, sweet knives and they are all combined less than a good ZT, so I am happy, especially with the groove and I hope the JYDII composite.

So yeah, been registered for years, watching, waiting for the time to post. Getting the Kershaw bug seems like the right time. I will eventually post pics of all my stuffs.

Yes, it is the original Roll-lock, without the prong that I read about the later models having, so it is a 2 hand closer.

I also plan to modify the cyclones for left hand spine front, blade back and up carry based on what I read about a guy that cut himself bad on the speedsafe open with the blade to the front of the pocket when the blade snapped open and down towards the front.

My first Kershaw EDC was the 1670TBLKST Blur. I liked it, but wasn't really feeling the sandpapery feel of the Trac-Tec inserts so I gave it away to someone I work with who needed it more. I just got a Groove and a Boa. I absolutely love the Boa but don't feel the Groove so I am currently trying to trade it.

The first Kershaw that I bought was a Rainbow Leek, which I no longer own. I really don't know why I sold it..

My second one, a Mini Cyclone, just showed up in the mail from SMKW. Man, I am lovin' this little knife! It's curvy handle feels really good in the hand. I do wish the aluminum scales had a little more texture to them. Other than that, I think that this knife is going to make an excellent EDC/beater knife... :)

Finally I can actually answer this question! Just got my first Kershaw today, it's the composite blade Shallot. I'm really pleased with it, I was lucky enough to learn about these forums right around the time it was announced, and after what seems like an eternity of waiting I've finally got mine :D Thanks Kershaw, and all you awesome forum guys for helping me pick out such an awesome knife!

You're startin' big Zindaras :D

Enjoy that folder, and then buy the rest of them. ;)

Thanks, guys!

And get a rockstar sharpener quick :)

Yeah, I was actually wondering about that, any suggestions? I hear since it's a recurve it'll be different to sharpen, are there any sharpeners that are made/happen to work well specifically for recurves?

Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker, using the corners of the rods.

And get the diamond rods, but READ the instructions. Dont knock most of the diamonds off like I did. Mine are still functional.
