i got it for my sixteenth birthday and it was my first real knife. i remember opening up the package at my girlfriends house and seeing it for the first time and thought "wow so this is what a swiss army knife looks like in the flesh" it was so shiny and smooth and the knives on them were razor sharp.

what was your first knife and what memories do you have of getting it =) ?

My first knife was a BSA brand Swiss Army style knife I won in a Boy Scout popcorn-selling contest.

First knife I bought was a Gerber "Folding Sheath Knife" I got in my early 'tweens. It served me pretty well, but now that I have some higher-quality folders and have discovered the joy of fixed-blades, the Gerber sits on my kitchen counter behind the paper towels, covered in rust and in total disrepair.

My first real Victorinox SAK was bought in Switzerland by my Swiss neighbors as a thank you, as they know of my interest in knives.

I was 8 years old, asked for a knife for Christmas and didn't get one. I then (think) I was told I wasn't allowed to have one so......
I went and bought one.
I think it was almost $3.... probably a Case. Local Hardware store.

Got my Butt kicked but good. Pop took my knife too, I was Hooked ! :)

Jeez, If he had only let me keep that knife........

First knife was the one I took out of the hands of the guy trying to mug me. Been hooked ever since!

Nice.

Mine was a small Kabar fixed blade with a stacked leather handle my dad surprised me with when I was maybe 4 years old. It was too pretty for me to use even as a kid haha. I didn't want to scratch the mirror-like finish on the blade. I still have it and it still looks new haha

My first knife was a pos from ace hardware. It was a two blade jack knife by a brand called sabre. I got it when i was in first or second grade. First thing my dad did was take it out of the box and much to my horror started destroying what probably was a horrible edge to begin with citing it was for my safety. Oh, well he meant well right?

Truth--I was 6 or 7, mediumish Vic SAK. My great uncle gave it to me.

A Buck Mini with a broken tip when I was 5 (I think). First new knife was a little Schrade Uncle Henry when I was 6 (I think).

Mine was a single blade Queen barlow with jigged bone handles given to me by my grandfather about 60 years ago (still have it neatly put away).

Fixed blade Buck knife at 14 years old for my first deer hunting trip. 41 years later it's still my hunting knife and I've dressed out every buck I've shot since with the same blade.

My first knife was a Winchester three bladed folder, given to me at age 8. It was dull when I received it, but I used it to saw and pry through small limbs and grasses. It had a sheepsfoot, pen knife, and clip point blade. Unfortunately no one in my household knew how to maintain it and I eventually lost it when it got rusted to the point where I could no longer open it.

I always felt bad for that knife and was never allowed to have another, this abstinence only further fueled my desire to obtain knives! at 17 I bought a Becker Bk-14, and well after a year of beating the snot out of it every single day it still holds up next to a handful of other hard use knives. I'll never forget that lost winchester though..

I don't remember getting it, but my first knife was a Swiss army camper. I carried it everywhere (including school because things were different then) and put it through the ringer:) I have no idea what happened to it, I quit camping in high school and lost interest in knives for a little while.

I had to read it twice. At first I thought you took it from a guy trying to hug you. You must have been one tough kid!

My first knife when I was 13 or 14 was a folding fishing knife. It was yellow and had two blades, one of which was a scaler and the tip was designed to be a hook remover. Don't remeber whatever happened to it but it was always in my tacklebox. I learned decades later
that several makers produced this knife and I dont remember exactly what brand it was.

My next knife was strictly for self defenese and was in my boot, literally, in New York City. Had this knife from around 1978 to 1984.
Hard to believe now but you could buy stuff like this in the City back then. I distincly remember the "wedge" shaped black leather sheath
and the little side clips that held the knife in place.

I remember 2, a Buck 119 that I got for Christmas and a SAK alox pioneer. I remember finding my parents gift stash and carefully cutting the tape to find the Buck in it... on second though this must have been my first since I used it to cut the tape to get an early peek at my presents

My first one was back in july 2012 before i moved to Fargo, ND. I was moving from NJ and learned i should be prepared always as ND is one of the least populated states in USA. I bought myself a Victorinox explorer and got into prepping and edc. Its been an addiction since
