What was your first knife ever?

Mine would be a SAK classic SD my Grandad gave me when I was 8. I really beat on it a lot. Being 8, it was used for everything, I'm now 13 and started collect knives, so I've decided to retire it so I wont loose it. I would post a photo bit its currently being shipped over from the UK after my move to California 2 months ago

Hi Godsent -

The first one I ever bought on my own was my Buck 110 - which I lost in short order.

I replaced that knife with a Buck 112 - back then those were your choices - a Buck 110 or 112.

That was in 1975 or so.

What was your first knife ever?

It was an old equal end jack that Father allowed me to adopt out of the tool drawer some 50 years ago. Carbon steel blades, of course. It was much older than I. I carried that for quite a few years.

I can't quite remember which one of these I had, but it was for sure something very similar to them. I still own it, its just at my parents house so I can't recall if it was the three blade or the four.

BSA knife I got in cub scouts right before I made it into boy scouts :). It was actually lost for about 4 years while I was in scouts, and then found in some of the old troop camping gear before I moved away :).

Oldtimer Stockman with saw cut derelin handles. It was a small pattern, or medium (It was stolen in grade school, so it has been a while since I held it.......couple decades).

My first knife was a Boy Scout Vic Tinker given to me by my Dad about 15 years ago when I was about a kid. He gave it to me as a gift for going from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. I not only still have that knife which I am thankful for since it has been "well loved" but I also remember the day he gave it to me perfectly, a very cherished memory. I still carry it sometimes, but I am real careful and protective with it.

This knife right here. A cub scout sak. I remember asking my mother if we could buy it. She looked at it, sighed and reluctanly took it off the shelf. Fallowed buy the standard "Only when your father is with you" statement. I must have been in about 3rd grade maybe. Around '83-'84.

Mine was a good ol sak. It had a saw, main blade, scissors and such. I am actually unsure on the actual model. I used it really hard and eventually it lost both scales. Ironically I eventually gave it back to my mom to use for hiking. It has been lost for years but I still bear a good scar on my left index finger from that great knife.

Heh, I had a Maxam for a long time - probably still around somewhere if I looked hard enough. It was cheap, sure, but I actually though it was a rather nice knife, especially for the price.

Mine was a liner lock with a slender clip point blade, open pillar construction, contoured rosewood scales, and steel bolsters. The liner was a bit thin for my comfort, but the lockup was still unfaltering solid. No gaps at all between the scales & liners, nor the scales & bolsters. Blade was reasonably sharp and held an edge reasonably well.

All in all, for the $15 or $20 i payed for it I think it was a real winner. A knife that looked great and performed as well as anyone could expect. A knife that 99% of people who carry a pocket knife would be glad to own.

As to my FIRST knife ever?

If I recall correctly, it was a small Imperial two blade stockman. It had a larger clip blade, and one small pen blade. Liners were made of brass, and the scales were of black Derlin. Dunno' what ever happened to it. I used it for a few years and likely lost it, as kids are wont to do.

My first was a rusted jack knife with celluloid scales featuring a GULF (gasoline) insignia. I was five years old and I found it in the saw dust pile behind my neighbor's garage. I was really enamored with with this knife and it's ability to be thrown sticking into the ground. Then I threw it into my grandmother's hose, and then while playing "stretch" into the toe area of my neighbor's sneaker. That was the end of that. My second was a cub scout knife bought while in second grade. I was much more mature at that point in time:)

I can't remember having a knife as a kid. I still have an old Schrade Walden 225n I had when I was 18-21 in the Navy.

I used I a lot. The knife is 5.25 long and the 2 blades are just under 4.0. I used both bolsters to bang/hit things by the condition

of the bolsters. I sharpened the smaller blade a lot....the blade is only about 60% of it's orginal size. The larger blade was

sharpened a lot too. The detent is at least 2 times as strong as any folder I have now. It weights 6.0 oz.

Mine which i still have is a small 2 blade imperial jack knife with black & silver striped handles, that i bought for 1.98 out of an old johnson smith catalog(which is now called things you never knew existed) in the early 70's.

I got my first knife when i was seven years old for my birthday. It was an imperial boy scouts knife with some crappy plastic handles, the large blade was carbon and the small blade was stainless which i though was very odd. I still have it but don't carry it much because i can't get past those damn handles!

My first knife was a Gerber FAST and my second was a gerber Evo tanto. Wasn't satisfied with either so I had to upgrade. After that I became a knifaholic.

don't have it anymore, but it was a balisong given to me by my dad when I was little, living in the Philippines.

I think it was this one. A Marttiini Finland "Lynx". My dad filed the tip down and sent me off to the woods (6-8 years old).

I remember it pretty well even though I was not even in school
yet, it had a brass & wood handle, it looks just like the one in this picture here:
