SAK, from an uncle when I was 10 years old. I remember my mom freaked out about it but she let me keep it. ;)

I had a Barlow with a sheepsfoot blade and bone handles that I carried around when I was about 9 years old.:)

Old Timer, 3 blade, junior Stockman. My father gave it to me when I was 6 (I checked with my mother and she said I was 6) - still have that knife in the pouch sheath that he made for me out of an old pair of leather slippers....it's 31 years old and went on many adventures with me.

Thanks for making me think about that, great memories!

My Granddad gave me and my brother a barlow with no brand name on it... hideous orange scales, but boy did I love that knife. My first 'tactical' type knife was an Endura, SS SE. Got it about 10 years ago, still carry it on duty from time to time.

In 1959 my dad had some stockman knives made with his business name and address etched on the blade to give as Christmas gifts to his customers. (Imperial/Schrade made the knives for him.)

I was 4 1/2 at the time and he gave me one of the knives that I still have and carry on occasions. Times were different then, at 4 I was already target shooting bolt action 22 rifles. My dad had cut a large portion of the stock off of a Remington .22 so I could hold the thing. As I grew he would cut a couple of inches back off of the removed piece and dowel and glue it back to the shortened stock.

The .22 is back to full size now with 3 cuts in the stock. It is still a tack driver with the Lyman "peep sight" that I added in my early teens and the stockman still walks, talks and cuts well. :D.

When I use the knife, sometimes I think to myself ya dummy, why do you have all those other knives. This one still does everything a folder needs to do as far as I am concerned. :).

SAK, the most basic model with plastic scales. I don't know it's name - two blades, can and bottle opener, corkscrew, awl. I still have it.
First knife I bough myself was a knock-off. Then, I got the right idea and went Spyderco :D .

I couldn't agree more. I think the same way when using most of my knives (which will all probably outlast me) and yet I still get the urge to buy something "new" even though what I have already will more than fit the bill :o .

Thats pretty cool that some parents were listed as giving a knife to them when they were young. I didn't get my first knife until I was 25. I always wished my grandfather had one to pass on to me. That would have been one to use and pass on to my son when he is 10 or so.

A Schrade Old Timer 34OT that my grandfather gave me. I lost it shortly after, and immediately bought an identical replacement that I still have 30-ish years later.

First knife I bought myself, probably the Sharp brand imported lockback from K-Mart. I still have it also.

He he, my first knife was also bought in Mexico.

It was a Boy Scout pattern Pastor Aleman, probably made in Eastern Europe, in 1960, I was 8 at the time.

Second one a couple of years later was a Boker stockman, a much better knife indeed, then around 1967 my dad bought me a Wenger SAK and a Schrade 34OT stockman, about that time I also got my first fixed blade, a German made Boy Scout knife that I still have today.

My first was actually 3.

Spyderco Hunter
Sog Winder II
Al Mar Eagle

I bought these after meeting a knife knut @ work, who used to carry a Spyderco Mariner. I've been hooked since.

A bone handled stockman which I got for my 7th birthday. Still carry one like it, 40 years later.

My first knife was a cub or boy scout knife of some sort. It had a folding spoon I remember. I must have had it sometime between 8 and 12 years old back in the mid-70s, can't remember. Don't know where it is now. I must have lost it on a camping trip or something.

The first one I bought myself was as a young teen in the early 80's out of a display case at the local drug store. A small Ka-bar lockback 2793 with wood inlay. 2 1/2" closed or so. I still have that one.

Aitor Oso Blanco. Got it for christmas in 1986. Holy crap! I've had it that long! It's still going strong. I've even have a nice scar on my thumb from it.

My first knife was a swiss army i got for my Bday when i was about 10 (got it from my parents). I still have it around but it sure is a mess now--I loved the little knife.
