What was your first knife?

My first knife was a SAK from Grandpa at age 5. Still have it. After I get over buying crappy knives I bought a buck at age 14. Now, I'm mostly into BM.

First knife was a three bladed old timer. A clip point blade, sheep's foot blade and one with a kinda rounded blade.

Got stolen out of my coat by some one when I was 9 or 10. I remember when I got that pocket knife from my dad, I felt like such a grown up, then cut my self immediately (as soon as I was out of eye sight of my parents).

If anyone has ever read Patric McManus story about the first knife it was exactly like that. (if you have never read his short stories in paper back about growing up/ outdoors do you self a favor and read them all, you will cry your eyes out....especially the part about why an 8 year old is perfectly competent to own his first knife, while even one day short of the 8th anniversary would be nothing less than a felony were a knife to be given to such an infant).

I just went to amazon and read and exerpt from "The Grasshopper Trap" It was the first 4-5 pages (re: The Skunk Ladder). It's 11:00pm here and I almost woke up the whole house because I was laughing to tears. I'm going to have to read some of Patrick McManus' books now. Thanks for the suggestion.

My first knife was a spyderco delica that my dad bought me when I was pretty young. When I was 15 I saved up my own money and bought a benchmade 710, 910 then a spyderco military model and police model. I still have the 710, the 910 and the police model. I lost the military model. The delica was broken on a fishing trip.

camillius cub scout knife. i was 6 yrs old when my father bought it for me and i sill have it.,,VWB.

My first knife was my Cub Scout knife. I later had a Boy Scout knife which I carried to school without anyone throwing a fit. Didn't much care for knives after that until they got to be locking. My first was one I bought at a dollar store for a dollar. It was a Chinese linerlock with a plastic, spray painted frame. I was on vacation and carried it the rest of the trip, but it was so handy that I got on eBay and found a decent one. Then more...and more...and still more...and did I say more?

Oh, and I still have it and even carry it on occasion.

In about 1960 my dad let me take as my own an old carbon steel 2-bladed folder with black plastic scales that he kept in his tool box. Have no memory of the brand. But I used to carry it when I went "exploring" in the "back 40". Pretty much been carrying a blade of some sort ever since.

Mum and Dad used to take me to the seaside at Weymouth when I was about six or seven, and in the gift shops on the promenade they'd have display cards with about a dozen small knives on them hung on the wall near the till.

As far as I can remember this was the first knife I ever had.
I still have it, but I don't have a picture of it, so the picture here is one exactly the same as mine seen on ebay.

This one was the first that I can remember.
It was given to me by one of my uncles.
I don't know who made it and the name cannot be read on the tang.

Went through Webelo Scouts with it, and ended up trading it in for a Leatherman tool later on.

Got my first knife when I was 9 or 10 at a carnival that came to town.
Had one of those guess your birthday games and he was wrong. I picked
out a cheap china made lockback. The game cost a $1 to play so he
still came out ahead. haha

I carried that thing for over a year until it gave way one fine summer
day. Luckily I was pushing down on it when the blade broke free
from the pivot and folded up backwards. Saved my fingers anyway.

My first real knives were a SAK Classic and a Delica I bought on the same
day. Delicas used to be $20 then. argh!

I still have every knife I've ever bought or received. Except for the
china lockback that almost de-handed me. :D

my first was a sak which i got when i was like 8. Used it for many years and eventially gave it to my mom to use. Not sure what happened to it. Last time i saw it, its condition was pretty bad, but it sure was a useful knife=). At about the age of 14 I stopped carrying knives till my early twenties. I picked up a small buck executive to use for my work. Sadly lost it within a year. Next i got a kershaw chive which i wasnt very happy with so i got a bunch of other knives. I currently edc mostly BM and spyderco.

Mine was an old Hammer-brand cheapie from the 5 and dime back in the late 1950's.Don't have that one but over the years I've picked up quite a few like it.tom.

I was about 10 years old...
When S&H Green Stamps was going out of business in this area around 1980 my mom allowed me to buy a giant 12" bowie kind of similar to this:

It was a serious piece of junk but I used it camping all the time until I lost it about 15 years ago while leaving a campground.
I remember playing around with the knife in the front seat of the car and slicing a big chunk out of my thigh while waiting for my mom to come out of the laundromat
it barely bled and I just hid it from her...
Silly Mommy :)
