What watch do you wear?

Good morning everyone

Okay I'm hoping all of you can help me I am looking to buy a new watch. I own now some Seiko kinetic's and auto relays. I would like some suggestions for a new watch for approximately five to $600. I have always dreamed of owning a Rolex but obviously that would not be the case with this amount of money.
Thanks a lot for your suggestions in advance.

Roger

Hamilton Men's Khaki H70555533. I love this watch, but everyone has different tastes :)

I finally broke down and bought a wrist watch
I have used a phone as a watch since cell phones became a edc item. But over the last couple years we have started to have to test water where I work . This requires running the water 5 minutes before taking samples. we test daily 4 places and weekly at 16 places . I has becomes a pain to pull out the phone many times daily so bought me a watch . I wanted a work watch so I didn't want to spend a lot of money I was looking at watches $125 and under ended up the watch that met my needs and I liked the look of was ~$40
My requirements were
1 Big enough band, Swinging pipe wrenches for 30 years has left me with Popeye fore arms ;)
2 Water proof, As a plumber I tend to get stuff wet
3 Analog face, I am old school :D
4 quartz movement, as mechanical watches tend to die after a few weeks of me wearing them
5 revolving bezel , I need to time stuff reason for going back to a watch
6 simple, I don't want to have to take it up to IS&T to have it set . plus I have a smart phone

After trying on and looking at many watches I ended up with Casio tough solar sport watch . I liked a couple of the Casio g shok watches but when I tried them on I could only buckle them in the last hole on the band and that is to close to being to small

Those multiple posts are a good way to get your post counts up there! :)

As to that particular band... It sorta looks like the Hirsch Liberty, but maybe even nicer. Now I wanna know what it is, too.

Found the info!! After a little digging, someone else asked the OP where he got the band. Said a hobby guy made it for him. Conversation dates back to 2012 and the OP's last post on this forum was from 9/13 so I think we're out of luck! Lol!

This seems like a nice alternative…

Yes! That's an outstanding watch.

Those 214 hummers are great. I too have a 215 from 1965. A Spaceview, though I like your RR Approved better.

Love the spaceview, one of the coolest watches ever IMO.

To add to the thread, I switch it up every few days, got the Helson Gauge on today (pic I took a few days ago, all 3 of my hobbies coming together)

Very nice! I share those hobbies as well... I'm not a huge montblanc guy but like the flat tops is that a 22/32?

I bought six watches from a guy a couple weeks ago and resold and gave them away to friends.
In conversation someone said to me that in twenty years or so almost no one will be wearing watches and that most of the younger people use their phone to see what time it is. The only people that buy watches today are people that work in places that they can't bring a phone..prisons, jails.

Food for thought.

Wrist watches were invented because it was easier to take a quick glance at your wrist than it was to pull something out of your pocket, look at it, then put it away. People who use phones to tell time are actually taking a step backwards in efficiency and convenience.

Not really. Sorry, but whoever said that made some silly assumptions.

One, smartphone battery life is crap compared to older cellphones that are only good for making phone calls. Add to that the ridiculous "innovation" of a battery that you can't swap out for one that is fully charged (thanks Apple), and you end with a method of telling time that is less reliable than the cheapest quartz wristwatch sold at the Dollar Store. Along with being inconvenient compared to simply turning over one's wrist and giving it a quick glance.

Must admit though that granddad would have found it funny that his horribly outdated method of telling time has become trendy with the latest generation of teens and hipsters. Funny how the latter isn't claiming that they're doing it in an ironic way this time. Though for once, they are. Since they're not doing it intentionally.

I've heard that before. Ten years ago I heard few would be wearing watches in ten years. The watch market is still going strong today.

Yup. I still use a Motorolla 195. Never turn it off. Charge it once a week. Still, it ain't my watch.

Either one of these hard workers. They have been loyal even though I have put them through miserable conditions for several years. Time does fly:)

Thanks! It's a 24, so the same as a 22 but a touch wider and longer. Mostly I like older German piston fillers, what pens are you into?

Cool - I've looked around once or twice for one of those patterns - they are really nice, subtle and well made! I'm somewhat all over the map with pens - have some vintage american (Parkers mostly), some japanese pens (vintage Murex, and some modern Pilots including some VP models) and a couple German piston fillers (Lamy 2000 and a vintage Lamy 27). My most recent and nicest is a Conway Stewart Dandy demonstrator model which I probably should keep in a box but I use anyway. Not that rare but they only made 200 I believe...

If I had to pick just one it would probably be the Lamy 2000 - not my nicest or most expensive, but just a really well balanced pen, rock solid reliable, great clip, not overly flashy, etc...

As for watches today I'm wearing one of these (not my picture but this watch) - which is hard to not put on each day as it is light, always running, always accurate and has useful features. I historically liked mechanical watches but when rushing to get my son out the door, well, this makes a lot of sense and is just so easy.

Awesome collection! Agreed on the L2000, I've tried it before and it is a great pen. I'd love to get my hands on a vintage example.

Getat homage of the Panerai MM. It's a beast. Very different kind of experience than my more, err... dainty, vintage watches.
