What watch would you buy if

I like the Marathon SAR line.

Marathon make a cool watch and they are a good looking watch as well but having lived with my GSAR for a few years now I will not be rushing to buy another one. I would go with a Seiko SKX007, I'm not a big fan of the day/date function personally but it's a great watch for the money. :)

I'm not a fan either; however, day/date does come in handy when deployed and every day is ground hog day when you really can lose track of what the day and date are in the daily grind.

Seiko Coutura Kinetic Perpetual. Model SNP071. Less than $400, never needs a battery, and you won't have to adjust the date until the year 2100. Great watch.

I'll add my voice to the chorus:

Seiko 007 variants if you don't mind no hacking or handwind; Seiko Sumo if you do.

No fella, I am an overweight American truck driver. That kind of stuff is for the rich and famous. I was setting my sights on a pathfinder or something.

Hopelessly flat broke is more like it really. Seriously, the only thing that stinks worse than my life right now would be a three day old dirty diaper sitting in a hot festering swamp.!

The pathfinder is not as comfortable as the regular line of solar gshocks. The gshock type watches are perfect in their design for everyday wear. That said I have a timex expedition shock with compass function that I quite like. $60. Its made for people with large wrists. I didn't want to pay the full $100 for a used pathfinder lol.

The problem with a hacking movement is that to synch the seconds hand with another time source (the sole purpose of hacking) you must interrupt the time keeping of the watch. Better is to have a seconds setting bezel which navigators used. Regardless the need to synch your seconds hand with a secondary time source is no longer necessary in today's world.

UK Air Ministry RAF Mk VII (Omega Weems) with second setting bezel. Synch the seconds using the bezel then lock the bezel, after which the hour and minutes are read from the watch's dial and the seconds are read from the bezel.

I've worn one model or another of Seiko for over years. Most of my current models are kenetics. Check out the Seiko Orange Monster and Black Monster. They are divers models and good to 200 meters.

One of my everyday watches is a Seiko Black Monster. Hasn't ever failed me...

I would love a Gshock. I just can't ever seem to find one big enough. I really like the JSAR, I just can't seem to justify that kinda greenbacks for a watch I wouldn't use for its intended purpose.

You wouldn't be usng it for telling the time, what would you use it for ?....

:D

I can't link it as its not bf approved but there is a g shock converter strap for maratac NATO straps that allows you to put a 11 3/4 inch 24 mm strap on a g shock...
