Came for the touching story of how highly a culture regards a simple knife.
Stayed for TC drilling hammer release.

I feel very moved by how much that young Kenyan appreciates a SAK.
I'm a little grieved he didn't see the relative value of a Case knife.
But hey- culture is culture.

I suppose Victorinox has earned the right to be highly regarded.

Not a surprise at all if you see where he's coming from.

A knife is just. knife for those working guys in 'developing nations'. Its a cutting tool and nothing more. They don't need a knife with more than a single blade, let alone costly materials like stag, jigged bone, whatever. They are good to go with Opinel's, Okapi's, Douk-Douk's, F. Herder sodbusters, and other low cost working knives. They are o a lower economic station where no pennies are going to be spent on a 'nicer' looking knife with more blades than needed.

BUT...a SAK is more than a knife. Its a small pocket size tool kit that screws or unscrews things to get at a problem, slices wire, opens cans, and most of all, pops open a cold one at the end of the day. A SAK is universally recognized and held in high esteem all over the world. Its a recognized standard.

Case? I seriously doubt that some Masai herdsman, Ugandan farmer or South African laborer has even heard of them.
