What we consider relevant...

Case? I seriously doubt that some Masai herdsman, Ugandan farmer or South African laborer has even heard of them.
They might have heard of Case farm implements and tractors. Growing up in Iowa, when someone mentioned "Case" chances are he wasn't talking about cutlery.

I don't remember Case knives at any of the sporting goods, hardware, Tractor Supply, and other retailers when I was growing up. Schrade/Camillus/Old Timer/Imperial, Colonial, Western, Utica, Frontier, Opinel, Vic and Wenger Swiss Army Knives, Buck 100 series ... no name "Made in Japan" knives (this was back when "Made in Japan" was considered much, much worse than "Made in Pakistan" is today. No Chinese imports then (aside from antique furniture, jade and ivory carvings, "Ming" vases, etc.).
I also remember my great grandfather had a well worn Hammer Brand Stockman and Barlow he'd bought "I dunno ... sometime in the 20's, I think. Why? ..."
I don't remember ads for Case knives in the 'OUTDOOR LIFE' and 'FIELD AND STREAM' or the gun magazines my dad subscribed to, or in my 'BOYS LIFE' Scouting magazines. I'm sure Case advertised in those magazines, just not in the issues distributed in the region I was in and to the west.

Truth to tell, I don't remember seeing Case knives at the Kmart or at The Orange Show Swap Meet in So. Cal, 1975 to 1980.
First time I saw a Case Knife was at Grandpa's Sporting Goods, in Clarksville, TN., (I wasn't impressed for the price they were asking. I kept to Schrade & family. To me, Case knives were an unknown quantity. I knew what to expect from Schrade.) around '88 or '89. Don't recall seeing them in Wichita, KS, from '89 to '95, either.

Taking into consideration Case's ... um ... "reluctance" ... to ship outside the US to the rest of the world, I'd be surprised if the average person living elsewhere has heard of Case knives. πŸ€”πŸ™‚
