What will happen to your knife collection when you die?

Thanks for all the replies!

I was really over thinking it... I'll be dead so I won't care. I leave some instructions but ultimately someone (whether I know them or not) will be blessed with getting some cool knives for free or next to nothing!

I'll certainly give some away too, but its hard when I'm not sure when I'm planning to die LOL

Thankfully - my grandson likes knives.
He gets them all - on one condition. He has to take my dad's old stamp collection too.
My dad gave it to me 35 years ago - with the hope that I would continue collecting.
While I'd never think of selling it - stamps are just not my thing.

Will leave them to my wife and son.
They have few as well and I did make sure they know the values, basic info about prices and knives.
My favourite Sebenza and Rockstead(Wife’s anniversary gift), will be by the side of my Urn.
But all this won’t matter because I will never die ;)

My wife and I have discussed this very issue.

My wife said that she will keep one or two that she likes and then our daughter and son-in-law get what they want.

The remaining knives will be donated to a local Scout Troop.

EDIT: I just verified again with my wife that is still the plan.

My SIL is very much into Scouting so I don’t see any problems with finding homes for my knives.

This thread comes.at a strange time. My sister and I just contacted by email about an estate from my father - straight away thought it was a scam but a few things indicated otherwise. My lawyer looked into it (for $1000) and verified it for real.

We are working thru the mess of sorting out a house and assets in another country for a father who left no will and we have had no contact since about 1976.

Lawyers in two countries are making bank off this mess and there is no guidelines how to go about it.

TLDR: write (or update) your will.

What will I care? I’ll be dead.
Quoted for truth.
My kids have an interest in knives and guns. So they can have them. In fact I’ve bought extras of things to make sure they all have what they need for the rest of their lives.

My only fear is that they fight over my stuff. That would be terrible. But they are good people. So I don’t think there is anything to worry about.

Ive known people whose only hobbies where smoking and drinking. When they died their estates were easy to deal with. Would you rather inherit a bag of empty beer cans or a cabinet full of guns and knives?

In similar fashion, my father donated all his fishing gear to a boy's home. (My father spent many years in orphanage and foster homes.)

It's a great idea you have for the knives.

Hopefully I make it to around 70+. If I do I will sell everything myself and keep around 20 customs with detailed info on their value where to sell them when I hit the road. I think it's far better to liquidate a collection yourself as you know the true value it will achieve.

My nephew's and niece have zero interest in knives but could certainly use the money for their personal lives. Why burden them with the task of selling a bunch of stuff they have absolutely no knowledge about. Better to have some fun selling the stuff myself and knowing it's all going back into the hands of real enthusiasts.

I have cataloged my 'better' knives, the one off customs and what few high end commercial blades I have. My son will take what he wants, and liquidate the rest. I have indicated what they cost, when they were acquired and what they are worth now. Money goes to my wife.

Call me selfish, Steven, but I hope you live to 170. (In good health and fighting trim.)

And I hope to see you again before that birthday. 😎

Pretty much my outlook. I won’t be around to care, so 🤷‍♂️

My wife and son know what my stuff’s worth and will keep what they want and sell the rest (and not for pennies on the dollar).
Eggzachary.

I have mentioned if they want to, is to make an account here, buy membership, and sell what they want here on the exchange. (Assuming this forum is still running).

That’s totally up to them if they want to go to
the trouble.
